Freerotation is a festival we've played for the last seven years. It's the only festival we've played so regularly, and it's an incredibly special place to all three of us.
 
This is the first time we've shared a recording of a set the three of us have played in a club or festival setting, and it feels right that it is a recording from there. This year we played the penultimate set on the final night in the second room, before Objekt closed it out (which you can hear here - https://soundcloud.com/keinobjekt/freerotation-2015-closing-set). Unfortunately the final 15 minutes were lost, but this is almost the entirety of our three hour set.

Isolée's long and celebrated discography has taken him from seminal microhouse compositions, through lush, deep and dubby productions, to the melodically rich sound design of 2013 mindblowing Allowance. Any of this would be a tough act to follow, but the seasoned Hamburg talent takes it in his stride once again, looking firmly towards the future while paying tribute to all chapters of the past with the brand new two-tracker, Floripa EP. The title track Floripa' begins to take its form around a thick and dub-drenched bassline that moves and morphs with fluidity, as tiny percussive elements orbit around an instant-classic synth melody that appeals directly to the heartstrings. The track's midsection showcases airy, spatial sound wizardry, with shimmering cosmic riffs on the core melodic phrase that cement its anthemic status, the latter third then subtly shifts gears again, amplifying the bottom end, and rooting it into a deep, urgent groove. B-side Favouride' begins to unfold with metallic percussive accents and spectral, voice-like synths that immediately establish the track's deep blue mood. A minor-key bass chord and windswept pads maintain the atmosphere throughout the track's mid-tempo, slow-burn progression. Smooth and sleekly produced, yet introspective and complex, the multi layers of rhythm and melody combine here for extra emotional impact.

Max Graef’s world is laissez faire and relaxed but the quality of his output is on a consistent high – a combination that has gained him a well deserved reputation and left many people wondering how he does it. It seems that Max couldn’t do any differently, unfazed by most of the hype around him peaking a few years ago, he has constantly re-defined himself with new projects and different kinds of output. A lot has been written about Max since then and we don’t want to bore you with further words of the same. Let us just say that for us, he incorporates the idea behind 5918mins. like very few people do. Max is Max is Max in everything he does. 

For this mix, he invites you to spend a Saturday evening at his friend’s “Pelle” in Moabit, sitting in the living room and listening to the things that come to his mind. The result is a beautiful mix leading through organically structured layers, synth-heavy 80’s Ambient, heavy percussion scores, Rock, Fusion and the odd bit of Funk, everything tied in with a sort of wooden feeling which seems deeply engrained in Max’s sound. However, seemingly tired of old labels and pre-conceptions, Max also shows he's developing constantly. At times, the mix leans more towards Electro and Dub, very much reminiscent of the sound that is represented by his new projects “Employee” and “Tax Free Records”, both of which this contribution is also subsumed under.
