This takes me back for all the right reasons.

About 20 bpm slower than most house music, but deep house was the inspiration. As was a cloudy night last fall, when, during a walk, I heard and then watched a flock of geese in their ancient migration, traversing the moon.

2014 was a big year for Scott Moncrieff AKA thatmanmonkz. Not only did his own label Shadeleaf become firmly established he dropped brilliantly received releases on both Kolour LTD and here on D.O.G.
Scott has managed to tread that fine line of simultaneously picking up props from all angles and wrecking dancefloors the world over whilst remaining resolutely underground and focused on the more interesting corners of dance music. RA rightly stated that ‘Despite the pivotal part his hometown has played in electronic music history, you can't shake the feeling that if this were the work of some auteur from Detroit, Thatmanmonkz would receive wider recognition from the house community.’ And that is why we love him!
Here on his follow up to last years Don’t Slip EP, he delivers 3 lo-fi, dusty, soul- tinged nuggets which have that unique yet instantly identifiable character only the most talented producers are capable of making. Opener In The Trees featuring the vocals of Kahill Anthony who adds a soulful touch to the raw, bumping groove set up by monkz. The kind of magic track that’ll get lodged in your mind and have the heads clamoring for the info when dropped on a big system. Flip over for Make It Now which treads a more familiar loopy disco path but does so in such fine style that you’ll be coming back to this one time and time again. Finally we have Sad n Blue which drops the deepness with fizzing Detroit padz and killer vox samples giving a nod to the moody one but with a throbbing bassline straight out of the nu school. thatmanmonkz is currently holed up in his studio making tracks for his debut LP which we’re happy to announce will be dropping towards the end of this year here on Delusions.

Three is truly the magic number on this special RSD 10" release from Razor-N-Tape, with a trio of groovy tracks by Nashville-based Magic In Threes. Now four releases in, Razor-N-Tape Reserve continues to deliver the deepness with this EP from the Netherlands’ Junktion. Although a relative upstart on the scene, Junktion has been getting some serious heads nodding lately with releases on Sleazy Beats and Outplay, and the Hot & Bothered EP continues to define his dusty and organic sound. From the summery ease of the title track, to the fresh take on the oft-sampled 'I'm Wishin' to the discofied chugger 'Fling Cleaning' followed by the slow-burning 'Visions of You,' this EP is a beautiful listen from beginning to end. And the kids are gonna dig it too.

Junktion - I'm Wishin'

Fouk, comprised of schoolmates Daniel Leseman and Hans Peeman (aka Junktion), first caught our attention in 2014 with their First Things First debut on Output. The Dutch duo then followed it up with releases on Room with a View and Detroit Swindle's Heist. They now deliver their fourth EP, Gruff, on London-based House of Disco Records, where Fouk now join a roster already boasting Francis Inferno Orchestra, Psychemagik, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Monitor 66 and more.

The title track and our favourite off the release, "Gruff" is an amalgamation of all funk music's greatness – a walking bassline underpin, groove-fuelled guitar licks, heady melodies on a wah-wah synth and dreamy vocal snippets. A healthy tribute to old-school funk in a modern-day format fit for any dancefloor.

Fouk's Gruff EP drops on vinyl on 18th January and digitally on 1st February 2016.
