"Really looking forward to The Disco Express event in London at Prince of Wales in November. Very happy to be part of this great line up for the party.

To celebrate and look forward to the good times ahead, I recorded this mix to give you a taste of what’s to come on the night. 

It features a load of tunes which have been really doing it for me over the summer months. Some unreleased, some new, some old, some new versions of old etc all thrown into the mix. Energy wise the focus was on what I imagine would be the soundtrack at The Disco Express.

As part of our celebration of 21 years of club culture, we're featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties and clubs most important to their lives in dance music. 

The Loft is one of the most storied and sacred spaces in dance music history. Founded in Manhattan in 1970 by the late David Mancuso, The Loft was a party unlike any other: relaxed and gently psychedelic, with pristine audiophile sound played at a medium volume level kinder to the ears. You didn't need to blast the music to appreciate the sonic perfection of the music and the system it was played on. Over the decades, Mancuso invented his own influential style of DJing, letting the records breathe rather than mashing them together. Mancuso, who died in 2016, had many acolytes over the years, perhaps none more prominent than Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy, who provides our final 2122 birthday RA Podcast: a tribute to The Loft.

Murphy has an impressive resume without The Loft: she's a long-time radio DJ, founded the Classic Album Sundays series and started her own Lucky Cloud Loft Party in London, in collaboration with Mancuso. Her DJing style, slow, steady and respectful of the music, channels those years spent at The Loft, and her RA Podcast embodies the disco-influenced sounds that define the party, played with care, love and reverence.

Bem-vindo to another journey into Brazilian music. 

I: have done a few mixes of Brazilian beats and sounds now for Gouranga over the years. This one I have chosen to call the Bem Gelada Mix. This phrase is what you say in Brazil when you want to make sure the beer you are going to drink is super cold. And of course it must always be bem gelada as they don’t drink it any other way!

Many Brazilian people face massive challenges every single day, however I strongly believe that still they know how to enjoy their lives more than in any other place in the world I have ever been. They know how to live a good life whatever their circumstances. A boa vida. And that is often because of the small things that make life good, like making sure your beer is bem gelada, that you are always a good friend and surround yourself with good people, that you dance whenever you can and enjoy good music, and of course go to the praia whenever is possible.

So I hope you enjoy the songs I have chosen. Not so much a mix as a blend of wonderful music as I dig deeper into the music of this marvellous country.
