BEC is back. It’s been almost a year since we last saw her with a full EP and she returns with an absolute monster three tracker titled “Law Of Attraction” which kicks off with the title track and wastes no time getting down to business. With fierce hi-hats and brisk, rapid percussions the track takes off like a jet plane as a simple yet incredibly wicked synth rises from the darkness and blasts of atmospheric rumbles and impacts crescendo to an exquisite culmination. ’T-ime’ is up next and BEC follows suit from the previous cut by harnessing the same breakneck pace but adding a storming lead of unpredictable resonant tones and flashes of sweltering vocal clips creating a wild and ethereal ride through the ether. Wrapping things up is the aptly titled ‘End Of The Beginning’ where an ensemble of swift, powerful drums provide the perfect stage for an escalation to a dramatic merger of celestial melodies and mammoth bursts of low-end leaving you with an impressive and indelible moment you won’t soon forget.

After a string of early, big releases on Pan-Pot's Second State, Brighton-born, Berlin-based Rebecca Godfrey is showing real signs of coming into her own as a producer with Signs & Breaks, a three-track EP due soon on VOIGHT.

As its name suggests, BEC's latest intertwines the rave-inspired breakbeat sound thats currently capturing the underground's imagination, with deep, emotional techno for what's arguably her best outing yet.

"Instead of just jamming, or having a reference idea already, I wanted to take a different approach to this EP," BEC told Pulse via email. "And create a project that uses a sine wave as the main hook, combined with breakbeats, to see what comes out of this! Each track is quite different—which I like.

My inspiration for this EP Sines & Breaks came from my early UK clubbing days, when I used to go to illegal drum & bass and dubstep raves. So I wanted to see how I could incorporate this into my productions. I just used Ableton Live's Operator to create and adapt the sound of the sine wave. Although it's nice to use hardware, sometimes it's not necessary and exactly the same thing can be achieved in the box. Meaning I could also do this whilst on a place.

Sometimes I find that percussion can be a bit too safe and same-y in a lot of techno releases these days. Break beats interrupt the flow and I've found they make people dance like crazy!"

Brighton-born, Berlin-based artist BEC will release her latest EP, Sines & Breaks, via Voight on June 29. 

The EP introduces listeners to BEC's more experimental side, presenting three spacey techno weapons of varying intensity. Bleep techno is an obvious touchstone for the record, as seen in its name and the three tracks, which range from the trippy gallop of "Sines & Breaks 1" to the more spacey and emotive "Sines & Breaks 2" and the closing cut's sinister melodies and swinging groove. Sines & Breaks is an impressive notch in the belts for both BEC and Voight and one that will surely find its way into the record bags of techno jocks the world over.

After establishing herself on the likes of Second State, Drumcode and Intec, exciting UK techno talent BEC now launches her new imprint. Purely for her own music, BEC kicks things off with four typically dark and driving tracks.

BEC has real technical skill both in the DJ booth and the studio. It is that which has meant she has served up electrifying sets of techno everywhere from Burning Man to Tobacco Dock to CRSSD Festival, as well as serving up forward looking techno tunes that have got high profile support from the likes of Adam Beyer, Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox and Pan-Pot to name a few. Ahead of gigs at Awakenings, Piknic Electronik Melbourne, and returned tours scheduled to North & South America, 2020 looks set to be an exciting year for the Berlin based star.

Downwards Spiral opens up with hammering drums and glitchy claps all running through with pulsing synths and a dark vocal that adds an unsettling atmosphere. Maximal Minimal is a brilliantly elastic groove, with warped synths and bubbling drums making for a restless groove that gets you moving. The sound design is refreshingly unique and will resonate with the listener accordingly. Time Illusion is an all out techno assault with hard hitting drum programming, urgent pads and a sense of unrelenting tension. Last of all is Some Feelings, a more dubby cut with a drawn out lead synth that brings real pain to the perfectly hypnotic drums.

This is a bold move to what is sure to become a vital imprint from this break out techno star.
