Dark Xmas 

I overthink stuff a lot and making music started bout 2 years ago as a hobby and to learn to let go of that tendency. 
Now i have a few things in the works that I’m contemplating on actually releasing and ofcourse, the overthinking is back!

So i’ma do the exact opposite: drop a mean Gqom tune called ‘Dark Xmas’ the weekend the sun reappeared in our Amsterdam sky 🤪

To train myself in ‘dropping shit’ and overcome the fear of letting the world hear some of the music i been making. (Plus it’s just SoundCloud and the promotion plan is this Instagram post that most of y’all don’t even read till the end)

But also because this represents connection to me despite the 7AM in De School feel this kinda gqom feels like to me. 

See me and my brother’s chill frequency is not as high as i would prefer. Last xmas we had a dope night tho. It was exactly what i needed the first year in NL without parents, no family party, no partner… Grateful i got to spend it with him and hope i can make some gqom w him the future…

Before COVID I hardly took the time to prepare/practice before a gig. The type of gigs I will be doing under the name wesley  I do need to do that. I love how I'm rediscovering my own style of dj'ing in electronic music. Catch me playing around in the beginning and catching a vibe later on.

Practice Ziongate @ Parallel Opening Night

It took me always 20 years as a DJ before I released my own music. This summer will see the first & last musical projects by WaxFiend! With South African electronic music i have found a form of expression that makes me want to create my own music✨

This tune came into existence after Prime sent me some music of a crazy talented artist's from Arnhem called Saint Ronil. Hearing the emotion he puts into his songs and the way he approaches melodies I knew he would kill Amapiano. 
Enlightened him and his producer Dave Nunes by sending them some of my fav piano tunes for inspiration. In sept 2021 I stayed in Nijmegen after the only festival weekend we had that summer due to covid. High off that energy we went into the studio the next day and created Etema which will see the light of day the end of May.

Waarom niet het hele Nori album remixen over classic ATL trap beats?? 808’s are universal! Een ode aan de de originators en de man die trap in NL naar een next level aan het tillen is!
Was vroeger fan dj’s uit de states als Green Lantern en Clinton Sparks hun mixtapes. Een Noreaga verse over een Mobb Deep beat of een Mary J Blige vocal over een 50 cent beat ofzo. Zowel de beat als de vocals zijn gecreëerd op een ander deel vd wereld door een persoon in een andere omgeving en met een individueel creatief proces en zijn of haar eigen passie.
En als dj is het kaolo hard als je dat samenbrengt, er synergie is en je die hele track op een nieuwe manier beseft!
Is dat me met het hele album gelukt?? Mag jij oordelen, ik denk voor een groot deel wel!

Welcome back Buju!!! One of reggae's most talented vocalist's just got released from prison today after his seven year drug related sentence. This is a remix of a dubplate he recorded for me over 15 years ago. Made this one for my set @ Appelsap last year (where Madlib was supposed to perform).
Not a thing most soundsystems or dj's do, but soon i will be posting way more dubplates and remixes people might know those legendary 00's Jamrock sets!

Last year a good friend came back from a trip to South Africa and put me up to this new style of electronic music called Gqom. First time i heard it i was hooked! The combination of the drum and percussions rhytms with minimal dark soundscapes resonated and moved me. For the past months i've been learning about this genre and it's talented producers and artist's.

Made this mixtape to introduce people to this sound from Durban, South Africa. Can't wait to see how people are gonna react when i play this on festivals this summer!

I will never forget the 00's aka the Golden Era of Dancehall! The start of my professional DJ career and the birth of Jamrock. Making and playing remixes and edits made the Jamrock brand known in the global Dancehall scene!
