Q: Thanks for your contribution to our mix series, how did you prepare for this mix, and how would you describe the eventual result?

Thank you for having me! After the sun finally showed up here in Berlin a few weeks ago I managed to get my ass up and put some music together. There were a few records I recently picked up with that certain summer mood I was in plus a few things I wanted to upload on the channel since a bit. Tried to make sense of all this with the rest of the things that are standing around here. I guess you can definitely get all your besties in a car, roll the windows down and blast this mix on your next adventure but listen for yourself! 


Q: Is there a record in the mix that you associate with a special story?

I have a certain emotional connection with that Johnny Star 7 Inch. Treated myself to it after handing in my bachelor thesis which has been a carousel ride for itself. Thanks again to Norm who was willing to let go of his spare. 


Q: How do you dig for new music?

I had phases were a spend a lot of time on Discogs but also love hitting up shops and flea markets especially while being on holidays and just going through everything that is there. Always looking for things that I haven’t seen before hoping it will either deliver a mood or make you want to dance. 


Q: One record you will never let go, one that doesn’t want to leave your waitlist and one guilty pleasure?

I will never let go of my copy of Yola Polastri’s Discoteque LP. Caminado Bajo El Sol is one of my all-time favs that pushes all the right buttons. 

One record that doesn’t want to leave my wantlist is the Spiegel B – Cool Down single. Didn’t pull the trigger the last time a copy popped up. Hit me up if you are willing to let yours go! 

One big guilty pleasure must be the whole Mini Stars series on Dino Music. They feature popular dance music tracks mostly from the 80s but with German lyrics sang by kids for kids. Please check out Jacqueline - Ferien Auf Dem Ponyhof which is a version of Jason Donovan’s Sealed With A Kiss to get an idea of what I am talking about. Too many great tracks to list here but if you understand German these will definitely put a smile on your face! 


Q: Music bonds people. Any djs/shops/etc.. you would like to shout out?

Sure thing! Very happy to have many passionate music lovers in my close circle. First of all William who encouraged me to record my first mix ever, Sandra (Frinda Di Lanco) and Henna Stein for giving me Italian lessons, the two Balearic Bananas Marvin und Phil, Dangerous Dave who’s is probably the most underrated DJ in Berlin (book him!), Los Chavales from Radio Relativa. I am sure I forgot some, but you know who you are! <3

Your Periphery Is My Center is a show on @refugeworldwide curated by Oramics to support regionally underrepresented artists by amplifying the voices from the Central/Eastern European electronic music scene and examining inequality within the industry. Each broadcast presents a selection of music from a different country in the region.

This time @matwe & @nina-pixel talk about the Slovak (not just) electronic & experimental scene - what has shaped it, which artists are worth watching & what's hidden from plain sight.

 🗣️ Matwe, also known as Mawt, is a clubbing curator of Nová Cvernovka, art centre & community in Bratislava; co-founder of Nočná, a party focused on dancefloor activism & intense audiovisual experiences; co-founder of SPFM, a booking agency representing underground electronic artists; former co-curator of experimental & techno club at Pohoda Festival; Ph.D. candidate in digital culture & creative industries, and a DJ formed by world's festivals and various events that he loves to haunt during the year.

🗣️ Nina Pixel is a conceptual sound artist, using field and voice recordings, tapping and cracking rhythms in never-ending journeys, pre-apocalyptic fairy tales, and emotional topography of unique landscapes, like the archeologist of the human soul. Her music is a journey into the noisy rites and industrial myths strongly inspired by nature.

Nina is recently working on reimagining Slovak folklore by redefining cultural narratives via a project called ANCESTRAL ARCHEOLOGY. She performed in national galleries in Amsterdam or Prague, and Berlin clubs like ://about blank, Suicide Circus, and Tresor or industrial spaces, silos, and old factories. She is currently based in Berlin and performs under the name Nina Pixel or BLACK ACID.

Synthetic Nature is Antoine Mathieu's entrancing debut album as Tonito Yama. In an epoch of all-embracing 'simulation' or 'hyperreality', a world where it's no longer possible to distinguish truth from falsehood, fact from fiction, apprehension from delusion. Is it virtually real or really virtual ?

« Synthetic Nature is born out of the desire to lose track between synthetic and natural, real and virtual, analog and digital. It's likewise inspired by the documentary Synthetic Pleasures, released in the mid 90s, when the outlook on the virtual and synthetic was still quite new.

If virtuality isn't the otherness of reality, but rather conceals previously unexpected potential, the virtual is envisaged then like the actual power of reality. And what if the massive development of this 'virtual' reality makes us discover that the reality in which we live has always been virtual.

This sentiment is even more increased in music that hides its matter in the air, like a vaporous prestidigitation. In this loss of cues, Tonito Yama trains the listeners into a maze of sound landscapes, edified and abandoned, sometimes glitched or psychedelic, at times sensible, but always fantasized. »

PREMIERE - World Wild Web - Unhinged Dancer (LBD Sounds)

Recommended by Marie Pravda for EAV's MFI series, this mix by LEOHT walks a very fine line between oneiric Ambient, Acid and Electro. 

With @dj-leoht's fantastic mix, @Ecoutesauvert is glad to continue, after ace contributions by Marie Pravda @yomomsmokescrack, Kosmic Skaut @lost_and_explore and @obraz, the fruitful Czechia connection in our Music for Indoors guest mix series. ✨

Leoht doesn't live in Prague or Brno, but in Pilsen (near the German border), where he organizes events to which he invited Marie Pravda and Kosmic Skaut to play at.

Leoht has gone through multiple genres after almost 10 years behind the decks, but has always been loyal to the endless field of electronic music. 

He says: "The perception of DJing has dramatically changed for me in recent years and I am pretty sure this ain’t the final stop. Mixing music is an additional language I use to communicate with people and it develops my inner creativity. With music I write a story that has a clearly defined beginning, course and end, each time it's a unique expression of myself. I have a soft spot for DJs who are confident in their natural development which has perfected such ability." 

Regarding the mix he adds: "There is a thin line between music for dancing and listening, with this mix I wanted to give the listeners the choice to choose. I looked for to conceive a deep journey where you can shut off the outside world and focus on what's happening inside of you."

LBD Sounds present the new album from World Wild Web. Based in Berlin, this one man band machine from France offers up a beautiful collection of balearic jams, soaked up with instrumental psychedelic keyboards, influenced by traditional music from all over the world. 10 organ-based tracks sound like a dreamy new age voyage from the 70s, yet this music is very here and now.
All the little live jams that this album comprises of have been tweaked and edited, some more and some less, but the feeling of raw improvised music has remained untouched. These don’t mean to be no chart hits, actually quite the opposite. It may almost be called a set of B-sides and it would still carry this badge as proud as it gets. It’s simple and complex at the same time, this collection has a potential to suck you in, take you for a ride through places unknown and spit you out at the other end.

In its second venture into reissuing hidden gems of electronic music produced in Eastern Europe in the 20th Century, LITTLE BEAT DIFFERENT ISSUES focuses on the work of a Czech composer, musician and producer, Alexander Goldscheider. 
 
Born in Prague in 1950, Goldscheider started as a music correspondent in New York in 1968/69, went onto reading Music at Charles University whilst continuing as a music critic and radio/club DJ, before becoming a record producer at the top Czech label, Supraphon. As a composer, he pioneered the use of synthesizers in his songs for major Czech pop/rock singers as well as in his own instrumental tracks. After moving to London in 1981, he first recorded two albums at the renowned Red Bus Studios, then proceeded to work at the legendary BBC Radiophonic Workshop, before co-founding and establishing Romantic Robot, a software and hardware design and manufacturing company which later moved into music recording and publishing. Of the many original products, THE MUSIC TYPEWRITER was ground-breaking software enabling the writing and printing of real notation on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Similarly TEREZÍN: THE MUSIC 1941-44 was the first ever release of CDs with music written in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp during World War II. 

Goldscheider’s 1980s LPs THEMES FOR A ONE-MAN BAND Vol I & II reflect his work as a solo artist, always writing, recording and producing single-handedly. He had, though, a team of technical aficionados and inventors back in Prague, who adapted and developed his electronic music equipment incl. synthesizers, sequencers and even a Studer multitrack recorder, thus creating a revolutionary set-up, on par with the much later MIDI.
 
This LP samples Alexander Goldscheider’s music produced for records, films, TV and even an art exhibition in the space of 25 years starting from 1975.
