The hometown clock works differently for everyone, but for vocalist Tracy Wilson it took 10 years to accept that Richmond, Virginia was genuinely her home. A transplant from NYC, the lyrics for Via Florum explore the space between a house becoming a home. It isn't just an abstracted celebration of the city itself but the experience one goes through to finally embrace their surroundings and settle down. 

These 5 songs were recorded in the winter of 2013 with J Robbins (Jawbox/Burning Airlines/Channels/Office of Future Plans) at his Baltimore, MD recording Studio Magpie Cage. From their beginning in 2011, Positive No has been Kenneth Close on guitar, Willis Thompson (Thao with the Get Down Stay Down) on drums, and Tracy Wilson (Dahlia Seed/Ringfinger) singing, however, James Menefee (Fun Size/River City High/ Long Arms) joined them for the recording of this EP while they were still in the process of searching for a permanent bass player (now filled by Josh Quarles - Jonathan Vasser and the Speckled Bird /The Low Branches). 

Via Florum begins with their first single "Pocket Park", a tribute to a once barren cement park that has been transformed and maintained by the community that surrounds it into a garden oasis. It is also the second time Scuffletown Park has been celebrated by a local band; hear Avail circa 1998. 

It is a shame that Pop music has become a dirty word because if bands like The Sugarcubes, The Pixies, or Q and Not U can fall under that banner with their sideways approach to making melodic Rock, so should Positive No. Their debut Via Florum welcomes you into their home in such an honest and friendly way that you might just find yourself planning a visit to Richmond, Virginia to experience it all in person for yourself.

Dave and Tracy became friends in the late '90s; meeting at CBGBs and bonding over a love of Voivod. They formed a band in NJ/NY called Down with the Ship that existed from 2000 to 2001 with friends Brian and Tom (who played in a band with Dave called Major Burns). Very few shows were played (2?), nothing was recorded in a studio, and as far as I know, this radio station performance is the only proof this band existed at all.

01 Resign From The City

The location was NYC and the general time frame was the late '90s.

Few know of Souvenir as we were a short lived project that never released any music or played more than a handful of shows live. All of our various previous bands broke up in the early to mid part of the '90s so as old friends looking to continue to play music on some level, we began to write songs together. 

The core of the band was Barry London (Van Pelt / Jah Division / Oneida), Tracy Wilson (Dahlia Seed / Positive No), and Jon Ariz (Merel) but Joyce Raskin (Scarce) played guitar and sang for about a year. Darin Galgano (Dahlia Seed) played drums most regularly but there were a few other practice room drummers that included William Goldsmith (Sunny Day Real Estate), Greg Leto (Merel / Rye Coalition), and on this demo recording, Adam Pierce (Dylan Group, Swirlies, Mice Parade, IRIS). 

Tracy (vocals), Barry (bass), Jon (guitar), and Adam (drums, vibes, back up vocals) recorded this three song demo in 1998 at Adam Pierce's home studio. This is the first time these songs have ever seen the light of day.

Runhild Gammelsaeter - Love

“Fini” on the AA side is a smouldering, breathy duet sung in French and English and takes place between Blasco and Melissa Auf der Maur of Hole /Smashing Pumpkins / MAdM. The music also features several friends of Blasco who have played with a myriad of bands such as Cracker and Sparklehorse. As the title “Fini” suggests, a love affair has ended and the man has drunk his way out of her heart. 

Together these two songs celebrate a classic sexy ‘60s French ballad style that sounds modern yet timeless. They describe affairs of the heart but avoid the trappings of a sappy love song.

The 7” will be limited to 500 copies on deep red opaque vinyl and comes housed in a handsome die-cut sleeve designed by Kenneth Close. Artwork also includes a Slept In Beds image taken by Nicholas Zinner. Out October 16th, 2012

"Fini" Featuring Melissa Auf der Maur

The label began with the release of Ringfinger’s (that's me!) debut in 2008 and I have been putting out a few records a year (by other artists) ever since. It is all about quality for me, not quantity. I don't have one particular style of music I favor so the only goal I have with this label is to release music that truly takes my breath away. That could be ambient Metal or that could mean candy coated twee Pop and or anything in between. I don't care about music trends or following just one lonely little genre. Great music comes in all forms and I am happy to explore as much of it as possible and to share it with others.

My other passion besides music is creating thoughtful and interesting record packaging.  Music is truly important to me but so is the art that surrounds it.When you buy something from LBC, I want you to feel like you own something special, something you won't regret taking up room on a shelf or in a music folder on your desktop. Ideally I would like to be the kind of label that reminds people why they enjoy owning music in the first place. Little Black Cloud Records may not be a very big label but I am truly a massive fan of music.
