Wish You Were Here

My take on Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on fire". This was initially created as a backtrack for my guitar students. I would usually sing this in the original key of E Major however G Major was preferable for the lesson. I experimented with combining the higher register vocals with a duplicate vocal line an octave below.

Firefly was originally composed as a tribute to the TV series created by Joss Whedon. It was one of three songs which won the 2008 'Acoustic Arts Duo' competition for 'Little Black Hats', as a 2 piece (violin & guitar) composition. This recording is the full 4-piece band layout.

Firefly

There are so many varied cultures, beliefs and opinions in the world. All of which just add to the wild, strange, beautiful tapestry that life weaves around us. So it is with music also. Some people strive for technical perfection. Some vent anger and frustration. Some use it as a political or religious platform. I've only ever wanted to write music that moves people, to make them feel something they may not have felt before. It's also important to me to continue to write and support music made with real instruments. Something that seems to be becoming rarer.

This song is very close to me, to events that changed me. This is my attempt to communicate something very complicated, ever changing and difficult to understand: human relationships and some of the emotions that they can engender.
