Fresh off a standout series of shows at this year's SXSW festival, which saw her take to the stage for the likes of Soundcloud, Complex, Okayplayer and more, with Sango, Waldo and the Soulection and AGO family, Little Simz hits the ground running and blesses us with some freshness to share with you guys.

The 20 year old North London hailing rapper and musician, who has been thrust into the spotlight following the release of her 4th mixtape Blank Canvas (which was premiered on Jay Z's Life+Times in September 2013, earning her global accolade and tipped to watch by the likes of Noisey, The Independent and many more) today brings us her thought provoking take on Da-P's "The Hamptons", which was originally released in its instrumental form a few months ago as part of a white label release from Soulection.

After the very successful “64 Ways” Ep that we released earlier this summer we are ready for more Detroit Swindle “Boxed Out” goodness. The boys have selected some of their fave producers to Lay their hands on four originals from the album.
First up is Mr. Freerange himself, Jamie Odell, who delivers a typical deep and fresh sounding reinterpretation of B.Y.O. under his Jimpster moniker. It’s a true house jam as only he can build it wit a great “Live” feeling. This is followed by MRSK from Sweden who you might know from his excellent releases on “Rush Hour”, “Skudge” or “Sushitech”. He boosts the banging “He’s Just This Guy, You Know?” to even higher levels with a raw Disco and Funk infusion.

The B side opens with Germany’s finest “Cuthead” who has just released his debut album on “Uncanny Valley” and who has been a huge inspiration to the boys in the past years, we are very glad that he drops his great skills on the smooth “Me, Myself & You” track.

Closing off is non other than legendary Baltimore producer Karizma aka Kaytronik, it’s a great honour for us to have such an influential producer on this EP and his take on the album Hip Hop jam “For The Love Of...” is something special. Crystal clear Techno/ House beats with deep subs and the cut up vocal from the original turn this remix into something very special and timeless.

Dam Swindle | Me, Myself & You (Cuthead Remix) (Preview) | Dirt Crew Recordings

Back in March 2023 I booked in for a double drummer recording session with good friend Sarathy Korwar and was waiting for him to arrive from the other side of the cosmos (along with his Drums and Tabla via Uber) or to be specific, from his home to the studio.

Earlier I’d had the idea to sample up this particular polyrhythmic modular synth piece that i’d fallen in love with by James Holden (now with his permission) and drum solo to it, so whilst waiting around, I
recorded myself improvising along on drums as well as vibes and various Thai percussion that I had picked up on our recent trip to perform in Bangkok.

The track came together intuitively and instinctively (but not by collectively improvising together as a band, like the other tracks on the forthcoming album “Abstract Intuition”)

I somehow knew that I wanted to create something precise, but I couldn’t quite verbalise or visualise it, perhaps because it was in way subconsciously influenced by everything I was listening to and subjectively inspired by all at once?
So, I allowed it to flow naturally and take its form under my guidance.

Another master percussionist friend, Magnus Mehta, added congas to the melting pot and I then added parts written by Ben Hadwen on flute and Twm Dylan on upright bass followed by me doubling up on synth bass.

I needed a certain simplicity from their input for this piece and I definitely remember ending up telling them both that if they got too ‘clever’ or ‘muso’ on it, I would have to start chopping off fingers one by one until they got the message. Thankfully it didn’t get to this!

To complete the collage I had the idea to invite Peter Zummo aboard for some dubby post punk trombone, the deep tone of which almost reminded me of the depth of sound achieved with a Tibetan Dungchen.
I had briefly met Peter at Cafe OTO when I was there providing DJ support for Bex Burch during her residency there.
And on the subject of Bex, it was her description of her sound as “Messy Minimalism” that partially inspired my title for the track.

it’s about CONSCIOUSNESS, unconsciousness, ego, identity, the mind… and LOVE.

This is expressed in the forthcoming video for the track.
