Since he was revealed in 2014 at Astropolis and Transmusicales festival, French producer Blutch has become a new ambassador of electronic music in France. After a prolific year in 2020 with two EP, “La Cité des Etoiles” on Astropolis Records and “Cirrus” on Hip Dozer, and past releases on Nowadays, Dance Around 88 and Delicieuse musique, he’s back with a new single that comes with two classy and groovy remixes from Mézigue and Lauer.
Following his unique musical identity between abstract hip-hop and house music, Cobalan is an electronic journey, with emotive and dreamy melodies accented by Mirabelle Gillis violins. A wonderful trip to a nostalgic and intimate tale, direct from the artist’s memories. Indeed, Cobalan is the previous name of the street where he grew up. A tribute to his childhood, a leap in his native Brittany illustrated by an elegant clip produced by Sourdoreille that makes you as a passenger into Blutch’s brain.
His unique touch won renowned producers Mezigue and Lauer’s heart, after having won other artist’s in the past (Terrence Parker, Michael Mayer, Red Rack’em or Maxime Dangles…). UFO in the French house scene, Mézigue delivers, as he always does, a good vibes ovation following an oniric intro, between enchanting melodies, funny loops and his recognizable kicks and lo-fi signature, that is suited for the dancefloor. German producer Lauer delivers a roady remix with a delicious electro vibe, glitched vocals and his cosmic touch.
This singular melodic work from Blutch and his remixers provides us a breath of freshness in the greyish monotony of February, a way to escape in these strange days.
“Cobalan” comes with a dreamlike clip in Blutch’s youth, directed by Gaultier Durhin and produced by Sourdoreille. Inspired by Michel Gondry’s famous clip for the Chemical Brothers, he offers us a trip in an old Peugeot 205, behind a strange ballet of raindrops and unveils the backstage with a making of.
A drive in a Peugeot 205 to Cobalan, in Finistère, the playground of Blutch’s childhood. Through the window, the landscape passes by and despite the sun, the rain comes down on the glass. Discreetly, the dreamy music and the raindrops synchronise, making a strange ballet on the glass to the rhythm of breaks and violins. As the music goes on, the rain becomes more intense, the car is submerged by a flooted scenery. The car stops on the seaside, and outside, the sun is shining. On the arrival, the door opens and a cascade of water gushes out. A perfect illustration of the emotion evoked by this track.
In reference of “Star Guitar” clip by the Chemical Brothers directed by Michel Gondry, the distinctive feature of this clip is in its directing, live and sequence-shot. A fascinating making-of goes with it and reveals us the backstage of its unusual conception : Blutch directing the water drops to the rhythm of his music with syringes, but also a tank tractor that fills the car with water, leaking from all sides. It’s a complete reinterpretation of the clip that we discover, between ingenious craftsmanship and a great technical feat to meet this constraint imposed by the direction.
Both from Finistère in Brittany, Blutch and the young promising director Gaultier Durhin have managed to be in harmony and create a fairy and contemporary universe, with a strong emotional intensity.

We have been working on this reissue since we began the label 10 years ago, and finally its ready to share with the world. Velodrome need no introduction to most, but for the uninitiated, they are the duo of Krishna Goineau (Electronics + Vocals) and Jordi Guber (Electronics + Programming). At age 15, Jordi played guitar in Barcelona punk band Ultimo Resorte, and formed Líneas Aereas with Frank Palomo after becoming interested in electronics. Krishna had been performing with Chrislo Haas and Beate Bartel in Liaisons Dangereuses. Krishna and Jordi met in 1979 through Jordi’s brother Raul, who was in the no wave group Xeerox. The idea of collaborating came when Krishna paid a visit to the rehearsal studio that Xeerox shared with Líneas Aereas. After dissolving Liaisons Dangereuses in 1983, Krishna, who was impressed by Jordi's synthesizer skills, decided they should move to Brussels. There they formed the short lived Metropakt, releasing two songs on various compilations in 1985. Not long after, they re-named their project Velodrome and began to rehearse with greater discipline. Experimenting with the latest Roland machines, which were equipped with MIDI, was an exciting challenge for the duo. In November 1987 they recorded three songs, “Au Velodrome 141”, “Glassfabrik” and “Capataz” at ICP Studios in Brussels, with additional vocals from Annemie Gers. They found a home on German label Animalized, and the songs were released in 1988 as the ‘На Велодроме 141’ EP. The record is striking, dynamic, challenging yet accessible, with Krishna's frenzied vocals sharply contrasting with the cool, angular production. In more recent years, the release has become much sought after by fans of techno, electro, minimal synth, and avant-garde music. Each song has been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The vinyl comes with a postcard and features the original jacket art with a photo of the rings of Saturn, echoing Krishna’s words, "we slide very well through the velodrome, there are no limits, only ice."
