Welcome to another fine episode of SIRS aka »Sounds in real Stereo«! After last years' arrival on LARJ with his »Arrived EP«, Berlin based versatile DJ & producer Daniel Klein is back with »Travel To HDF.Y3D« - an utopian (or more likely dystopian) ode to space travel:

The last few remaining humans are traveling with 140bpm to the most distant galaxy in the universe on a mission to seek out a new space for mankind to live after many years of exploiting good old Mother Earth. What sounds like a horror scenario if you start thinking about it, SIRS manages to wrap up in quite a positive musical message. Thus »Travel To HDF.Y3D« becomes that hopeful uplifting slightly dreamy tune we all need these days - not unlike Christian Bruhn's theme of a certain Captain called Future back in 1980 …

It's also nice to have two more versions of such a strong tune at hand: The first one is a true first one for »Cocktail D'Amore« DJ BUDINO as she comes up with her first remix and production work ever. Budino's approach is a slightly darker, maybe indeed more dystopian one. The synthesizer bass lines dominate her remix and by getting rid of the original's playful melody she creates a very special melancholic feel. 

Leipzig based PANTHERA KRAUSE's take isn't quite that different from Budino's as he too focuses on the darker vibes of this journey in space. It's his added extra dose of punch that surely will keep dancers on the floor for sure.

The former »Space Ibiza« resident SIRS now takes over the controls again with »Summer Desire« which too is destined to rule dancefloors not only in Ibiza but all over the world with its lovely airy vibe.

»Travel To HDF.Y3D« returns for one last time in form of the spoken word prolog - a nice extra tool to play with.

The Bristol-based party series Bodywork releases its first compilation. Devoted to reaching farther and wider audiences spread in gyms and dance floors all over the world, “Flexes 001” gathers an interesting team of up-and-coming, talented producers: David J Bull, Chez De Milo, Void Complet, Sigma Delta, Sensus, and Emmet Read (SXDNS311) broke a sweat and delivered six workout gems that showcase their most notable influences. Expect Disco, House, Techno, EBM, New Wave, Hi-NRG, plus CrossFit anthems.

Music historian Matt Anniss, who was invited to put some words together about Bodywork’s inaugural release, writes about the track we were solicited to premiere: “London-based synth-lover and sometimes Natural Frequency Records contributor Void Complet pushes up the tempo while retaining the mind-altering hedonism that marks out the developing Bodywork sound. His contribution, “Dont Wanna”, sits somewhere between dubbed-out, breakbeat-driven retro-futurism and jazzy, electric piano-fired Deep House”.

PREMIERE377 // Void Complet - Dont Wanna

Two seasoned French DJs/producers team up in a Parisian studio for a vibrant alliance destined at the more elusive dancefloors - vous avez dit disco noir?

Long-time chums Jerry Bouthier and Julien Plaisir de France met at the beginnings of rave and forged an enduring friendship based on mutual artistic respect as well as a fondness for absurd humour and all things 80s. Both went on to define their own path whilst regularly contemplating working together on a project, alas to no avail. Until recently when, on a whim, they cracked open the champagne in the studio, let the jokes flow and finally got down to it. Created on vintage tools, fat synths and classic drum machines ‘Eccitatissimo’ (the clue is in the name) throws hypnotic basslines, chorus guitars and frantic effects into the mix; a 120 BPM peak-time banger that pushes the right buttons, groovy yet trance-like with spaced-out breakdown. 

Balearic player of the early Parisian rave/house scene (with late brother Tom), long since relocated to London, Jerry Bouthier eventually joined the dots between dancefloor and fashion as he became DJ stalwart of the Kitsuné label/clothing brand (owned by Daft Punk’s manager), touring around the world on the back of his residency at infamous London club BoomBox; whilst simultaneously maturing as diligent sound-designer for the fashion world (Vivienne Westwood etc), a craft - characterising moods - tailor-made for Jerry. Over the years he has created hundreds of soundtracks for the catwalks of London, Paris, Milan, NY and deejayed at the parties of some of fashion’s biggest names, yet still relishes his me time in the studio looking for the perfect beat/melody.

Having learnt the bass in his teens in the aim of joining his mates’ band, Julien Plaisir de France quickly caught the electronic bug, released his first 12”s on seminal Parisian house label Pro-Zak Trax and soon scored a club smash under his Sweet Light moniker with electro monster ‘Abusator’ (championed by 2 Many DJs, Tiga, Ivan Smaghe…). He renamed himself Plaisir de France and became a reference on the edit scene breathing new life in plethora of classics. Julien has just rounded off twenty years of music-making with the release of his debut album '#20’ celebrating timeless French electronic pop with the help of a motley bunch of stand-out vocalists and his own personal gallic twist. Still, true to himself, he remains a generous, eternally enthusiastic dj.

Jerry Bouthier: “We both love the original new wave/post-punk of yore, the sound of NY clubs such as Mud Club, Danceteria etc, when electronic instruments started to infiltrate studios and dancefloors. Futuristic music to dance to - obviously fed by disco - but also packed with attitude and interesting new sounds. A landmark in time… With Julien our musical trajectories crossed again thanks to the current dark disco thump that harps back to that golden era, it was the perfect moment to combine our inspirations and contribute to this scene that keeps on pushing the limits… A good occasion to spend time with Julien who makes you look at life with a smile, priceless!"

Julien Plaisir de France: “Sure, ‘Eccitatissimo’ is all about dancing… from the past to the future, from maximal to minimal! Jerry and I go a long way, our friendship has lived through various eras and music styles. We may share an appreciation for bands, our roots I guess. Our initial bond stems from having succumbed early on to the drive of the synthetic beat though. We never fail to value powerful ideas or inspired musicianship, hence the logic of combining our skills - my tendency to let sonic concepts run wild and Jerry’s no nonsense study of what makes bodies move - in order to deliver fresh, effective tracks.”

In anticipation of the release of Jascha Hagen’s excellent new LP ‘Songs for A Future Generation’, Oath are proud to present the first single ‘QQQ’, the opening song from the record which will certainly wet appetites and set expectations very high indeed.

‘QQQ’ is a quintessential example of Hagen’s work, but with a twist which sets itself out beautifully as the album opener. A deeply intricate groove is interlaced with delicate melodic lines, the lead of which is deeply hypnotic and harp like in its tone. Everything feels driven and forward thinking, moving through the grooves with an ease that unravels expertly as time passes by. The gradual increase in textural intensity leads to a climax towards the mid way mark that gets the pulses going and only serves to showcase Hagen’s deft hand at handling compositions and leading proceedings from A to B. Expectations are defied as everything slows to a fazed out meatless section which slowly burns things out to a cinder, and we are all for it.

Jakob Mäder - Seen Places (Snippets)

Had life only just started? It seemed everything that came before now had started to fade into darkness... Problems that once felt catastrophic no longer mattered; selfish pursuits were no longer on the agenda. It wasn't just them anymore, there was another life to think about other than their own. Everything had been flipped on its head and, though scary and unknown, they were ready to dive in headfirst.

Italian DJ and producer Fango launched his E Dee series last June dedicated to a life-changing event that had taken place a few years prior: the birth of his first child Carlo. Each release explores the world his son sees but communicated through Fango's own eyes (and ears). Now on volume two, and with Peruvian imprint Degustibus on board this time, he shares three cosmic, driving grooves that take their titles from Carlo's own vocabulary, while the artwork uses Carlo's mouth as the image for the centre sticker and his own drawing for the inner sleeve. Another chapter in a very personal and beautiful ode to becoming a parent.

Kicking off the New Year by announcing: "Nube Diamante," a collaborative single EP featuring an insane talent combination between @andrealacoste @mysteryaffair and @azaria_mad . The release is set to drop in the end of January 2023 and the original is sure to be a floor banger with a spectrum of sounds and lyrics that unfold like an exciting experience.

"Nube Diamante" showcases instrospective personals with peak time brushes, a piece reinterpreted via outstanding remixes from some of the hottest names among the indie dance / dark disco platforms. @chas.gracias remix is a tropical trance with latin touch, powerful bass and cowbells, then straight from Guatemala, @riveiby brings to the table a neo pop psychedelic pachanga driven by antagonic grooves. This EP also includes a remix from @ivan_delarouch , head honcho at Logical Records, a special collaboration from the Spanish artist @parissior and a bonus vocal rework from Andrea. Feon returns with a second EP, perfecting his psychedelic sound. He says -

'The Light’ is a continuation of the theme of sun worship from the last EP. The sun, or light can be seen as symbolic of the light of conscious awareness, and has been used as such by human cultures throughout the ages, from the earliest hunter gatherers right up to the present day. But of course, where there is light there is also darkness, as all that is light emerges from the primordial darkness, the eternal emptiness or non-being, that which preceded the creation of our own universe. This darkness finds its corollary in the human unconscious, which on the personal level contains our own repressed emotions, and on the deeper collective level is the dark chaotic source of all that is creative in humanity. This collective level is connected to our "primitive" and animal evolutionary past, and as such contains much wisdom that we, in modern times, have lost. Hence the second track ‘The Wisdom Of The Animal’, which is a more hypnotic, physical track, and an intentionally evocative sonic call to access your own animal, physical selves and the bodily wisdom that is contained within that experience. On ‘Gotta Slay’ I perform an extract from a James Massiah poem called ‘Functioning’ which I came across at an art show exploring mental health amongst the creative community. With a repetitive acid line, 808s and bongos, I have repurposed it for a smoky and sweaty basement. After all that darkness there is ‘Risin’, with a sample from Faust and my own singing, there comes some kind of salvation.
