Ramona is ready to reveal yet another manmade mystery to humanity – "Reframe" by Benedikt Frey. Browsing through Frey’s back catalogue, one thing has always been certain with every new record released – Frey’s music has always been mystical, was working in different layers and has never been only a further development of the record before. "SH Birds" enters the Single with waves of hypnotizing synth-sounds, a weird vocal-sample and an analog-driven beat. "Signals" has a terribly wonderful build-up, starting with a basic rhythm from a kick-drum some hi-hat and a snare here and there and only lives off carefully chosen soundscapes. "Mind The Gap" goes right the opposite way from the track before – a striking bass-line throughout the track with a hunch of acid, a clap as hard as a smack to the head and mesmerizing vibes all over the place. "Good Night Houston" marks the last track of "Reframe" and starts out with a dark soundscape that drives right into an analogue outburst of old Chicago-ish acid-vibes and loses itself in the haze of deepness later on. When Ballan lands on a label, it’s rarely by accident. The globe-hopping producer has a knack for weaving together the raw energy of Electro, the swing of UK Garage, and the cheeky irreverence of House into tracks that sound as spontaneous as they are deliberate. With releases on Bliss, Sucre Discs, Non Stop Rhythm, Howl and his own imprint Phlex Recs, Ballan has carved out a corner of the underground where grooves hit heavy but always come with a wink.

His latest adventure finds him on Alec Falconer’s ever-mischievous SUNNY label, following Phill Prince’s “Playground Pleasure” with an equally playful yet razor-edged two-tracker: “Different Shapes / Eurocup Mess.” One track born on a beach in Thailand, another out of admiration for Thierry Henry and a love letter to Electro - together they encapsulate Ballan’s refusal to play by any rulebook except his own.

Fresh off a Euro summer and ahead of his contribution to the art:cast series, Ballan sat down with Torture the Artist to talk about the accidents that make tracks special, guilty pleasures that would shock the underground, and why every morning starts with coffee, a computer, and a burst of creativity.

After the warm reception of its first VA release, Phosphor is back with a new chapter: darker, more mysterious, and with a solid line-up of artists. The A-side sets the tone with two club-focused tracks made to move the floor, while the B-side drifts into a more hypnotic and introspective territory.

The record opens with “Satisfaction”, a club-driven cut marking Jesse Maas’ first appearance on Phosphor. Heavy basslines, crisp percussion and a vocal hook give it a strong presence on the dancefloor.

Next up, “Unlimited” sees the label’s founders, Blue Vision, reaffirming their style: melancholic yet groovy, nostalgic yet forward-looking. Deep electro wrapped in lush synths and a powerful low end, it’s a track that continues to shape their identity. 

On the B-side, Light Blue File steps in with “Consciousness”, a hypnotic journey marked by his signature production. Rolling basslines and intricate breakbeat drums build a tense, immersive energy.

The VA concludes with B.AI delivering a spacious, emotional piece. Floating textures, drifting pads and a subtle pulse create a deep and introspective finale.

Based in Dubai, his influence spans decades—as a promoter, label owner, and festival curator—bringing innovative sounds to the forefront long before they hit the mainstream.

He founded WARPED, one of the region’s most respected underground brands, and hosted a monthly show on Ibiza Global Radio spotlighting rising talent from the Middle East and India. As a certified sound engineer and co-founder of KitchenSync Records, his production work spans labels worldwide—delivering everything from deep techno to groove-laced / stripped down / minimalistic  - house & techno with a distinct, evolving sound. He has had releases on Zebra Rec, Wowie Music, EXPmental Records, Amaylia Records…

He sat upon a little hill beside the bridge and looked out upon the river which passed down beneath. It was hard to see the ripples of the water but for the occasional flicker of the headlights which whizzed by up there on the overpass. Some people came out here from time to time to spot the northern lights but there wasn't much moving in the wayward sky this evening. 

There was a near silence in the air, the occasional scream of something wild in the woods in the distance would echo across the snow capped fields. 

He took a deep breath and watched as it filled the air with fog.

Don't Be Afraid has always represented the very best of the underground, a prominent label with a commitment to the out there. Label boss makes a triumphant return with a new EP.

As the name states Live at Robert Johnson is the associated label of the respected venue in Offenbach and incorporates what the club stands for. The imprint has been establishing a solid ground for the new Frankfurt sound since 2009. By featuring internationally acclaimed artists LARJ has been providing DJs and audiences with essential tunes in an extensive range of high-quality house music. Laid-back dance-floor awareness with a sense for particularity in sound is what might describe best most of the releases and artists.
