Party lovers and party starters grow up. We’re here today, excited as if it was our first time in line for the club, to announce our very first label project. As we believe good vibes go hand in hand with the good sound we made our vision real and loud: our very first release as BS Radio label is coming very soon. BS Radio Volume 01, a superb 11-tracks album compiled by the exquisite Eternal Love duo.

BS Radio, the music soul of Burro Studio, is music, events and people. So let’s get the party started.

“When the lovely Burro Studio crew asked us to compile volume 1, we did not have any experience in curating a full musical discographic project. So, the easiest way was to ask friends to contribute to their music. We can definitely say we were lucky to be surrounded by such talented people ! Big thanks to all the artists involved for creating this emotional musical journey: the perfect soundtrack from the first warm lights of the sunrise to the lunar reflections of a summer night by the sea”.

Voluminous Arts happily announces its third official release, a 12 track digital album and accompanying 3xLP limited 3 color vinyl edition entitled “Disco” by Gavilán Rayna Russom’s elusive alias Black Meteoric Star. 

This is not a Disco record. The title deliberately troubles the music biz’s incessant tendency to hierarchize genre classification over the experience of listening. If you must categorize these mutant sounds think of them as a proposed alternate score for those long, caffeinated sessions in Abby Sciuto’s forensics lab, the soundtrack to a heavy workout in the Westchester Danger Room or perhaps the musical accompaniment to deep body investigations of your own ancestral memories. 

What this record really is, and why it’s called “Disco” has to do with the layering of time and life energy present in the spaces where we have traditionally danced to music which are sometimes called Discos. From the pounding urgency of “Muscle Machine” through the unbridled night vision romp that is “Fluid Feline Forms” and the shimmering investigations of “Whispers Between Worlds” to the extended lazer pointer focus of “I’m Unmelting” this record lays out a broad slab of practice-based research into the ghosts we connect with on the dance floor. Whether it be through partying in former industrial buildings, contested spaces of labor built on lands violently appropriated from indigenous people, uncomfortably inhabiting vacuums in queerness left by the AIDS epidemic, lifting lineages through sampling, or the relentless cycle of whitening that accompanies dance music’s march into the market, our experiences in the Disco have been permeated by the spectral and the haunted. Through rhythm and frequency, organized over time, this music blurs the veil between the living and the dead inviting those who move to it to connect with experiences beyond that false binary. 

What you have here is another fantastic Black Meteoric Star record, as always made without multitracking or overdubbing, recorded directly from single live takes. It is is utterly consistent with all that name has come to mean, but on “Disco” Black Meteoric Star’s vision has been allowed to expand into an almost mythologically epic space. Ancestral time works differently. Settle in and absorb the frequencies. As the closing track suggests, the virtual Disco these sounds evoke is for “Freaks Only”.

Freeride Millenium label head Jorkes sits right at the heart of the European scene. Their DJ sets and productions are famously emotionally charged and draw from house and disco across ages. They come on labels like AUS, Permanent Vacation, and Live At Robert Johnson and alongside Jorkes's work as a vocal LGBTQIA+ activist who always centers marginalized people in what they do alongside partner Daniel Rajcsanyi, who always provides original artwork for the releases.
This new EP is a homage to the bathhouse cruising lifestyle and is themed under Jorkes's lover’s ‘Paris Böhm’ alias, as he is a masseur at Apollo gay city sauna in the heart of Vienna, which is where Freeride Millennium hosted sauna parties.
'+4367762558223' kicks off with thumping house drums and a grinding bassline before tender, molten synth sounds swirl about the mix to bring intimacy and romance. Melancholic leads extend the lushness further amongst muffled vocal musings. The loved-up 'Pool' is awash with exuberant old-school piano chords and dusty Chicago drums that bring the good times. 'Apollo City Sauna' shows a vulnerable side to Jorkes's sound, with introverted synth work and rubbery basslines providing deep thought and late-night dancing. Closer 'In My Arms' is a five-minute synth odyssey full of self-reflection and tender keys that soothe the soul.

Aus release more music than pretty much any other label on earth, which is great if you, like us here at THUMP, are really into club-ready house music that comes in as many flavours as those new fizzy drink machines you get at places like Five Guys. You know the ones we mean; the contraptions that let you rot your teeth in an amazing array of ways. The modern world is brilliant! 

Their latest 12" sees imprint-owner Will Saul working alongside long term label favourite Komon on the fantastically lithe "Harmonise," a rollocking roller that's more suited to greenhouses than warehouses. 

The B-side sees a pair of big, big remixes. The first comes from Juju & Jordash who take things down a slightly more acidic path, leading us to imagine what exactly would happen if one was to feed a venus fly trap a tab or seven of good, strong acid? Presumably very little, really, but don't EVER deny yourself that kind of flight of fantasy. Plants on drugs...imagine!

Moving swiftly on, the other remix comes from one of the classiest men on the circuit—Mr. Nick Höppner. As you'd expect from a man whose productions and DJ sets redefine the idea of "chic, sleek, European house and techno," he's turned in a reworking so effortlessly cool that repeated exposure has the potential to freeze you to your own sofa. We reckon it's worth the risk.

As the name states Live at Robert Johnson is the associated label of the respected venue in Offenbach and incorporates what the club stands for. The imprint has been establishing a solid ground for the new Frankfurt sound since 2009. By featuring internationally acclaimed artists LARJ has been providing DJs and audiences with essential tunes in an extensive range of high-quality house music. Laid-back dance-floor awareness with a sense for particularity in sound is what might describe best most of the releases and artists.
