FACTORY: 2023 & BEYOND - Raw precision from the Brooklyn Underground.  If the past four years have proven anything, it's not time to rest on anything because times have changed.  Factory is my mix-tape series from 30 years ago.  Search on Youtube "FACTORY 1 - FRANKIE BONES", At that moment on July 4th, 1992 the future had arrived.  So many years later I had to deliver something magical for 2023.  To manifest the desire to produce something that goes far into the future in my own lane.  To lead & not follow.  

Whatever higher power I have is nothing short of the ultimate blessing.  Not to sound silly here but there were many forces trying to stop me dead in my tracks, and yet I made it past the offense, the ops, the gangstalkers and whoever really thought they could stop me.

The music itself has humbled me out, that is why there is no speech or vocal content as an intro. The music as always should speak in volume.  The real home of Techno is where it is the loudest.  Thanks to All.

With over 20 years experience under his belt, Ben Sims has a well-deserved reputation as one of the world's most in-demand and leading techno DJs - a tight, energetic mixer who skilfully weaves together his own distinctive blend of tough funk and hardg..
From early formative days earning his stripes spinning hip hop, house and rave on pirate radio, and at parties around Essex and East London, through the 90's as an ever more in demand DJ, and on into the new millennium as a label boss, producer and internationally recognised techno legend in his own right, Ben Sims has spent all his conscious life exploring all facets of underground dance music 

Throughout that time, the man has honed his reputation as a tight, energetic mixer who skilfully weaves together his own distinctive blend of tough funk and hardgrooves, often using three-deck wizardry and plenty of dexterity.  Be it at clubs like Fabric London, Atomic Jam, Berghain, Florida 135, or any number of festivals around the world, Sims' sets are powerful, memorable, and unique, while constantly pushing the boundaries of a DJ set - utilising a   mesmerizing blend of vinyl, CDs, and software.

As well as carving a reputation as one of the world's leading techno DJs, Ben has curated many of his own revered labels over the years.  Chief amongst them is Theory - an imprint this year celebrating it's 40th release, that counts amongst it's supporters contemporary connoisseurs like Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, and the old guard of Dave Clarke, Robert Hood, Rolando and more - proof, then, that Sims is on the form of his life production wise.

Riding high on the wave of critical acclaim from his cultured debut long player on Drumcode, 2011's Smoke & Mirrors, an album that voyages into Sim's unique take on techno, coupled with authentic house outings, thanks to guest appearances from Chicago's Tyree Cooper and Detroit's Blake Baxter, whilst also showcasing plenty of dubbed-out and grainy textures.

Sims has put his name to more than 50 releases in the last two decades.  During those years, there has also been a steady stream of high profile remixes of scene heavyweights, including Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer, Kevin Saunderson and Chris Liebing, on labels du jour like AXIS, KMS, CLR and Drumcode, all of which have won as much critical praise as they have crossover success. 

Despite his veteran status in the scene, Sims has always been keen to evolve.  Alongside Kirk Degiorgio, he is co-founder & curator of Machine - a clubnight which focuses on new, unreleased, & upfront music; it's primary home in London, but with editions all across Europe each year. His 'Run it Red' radio show, broadcast via NTSlive and podcasted afterwards, also serves to solely highlight new music.

FACTORY 80120 - August 01, 2020 - This is totally the raw precision from the original Brooklyn Underground.   To an untrained ear it may take a few listens to actually understand a lot of my mixes need to be broken in.  It takes a couple of listens.   Why?  I always have broken it down through four genres, Techno, House, Trance & Breaks.  All on the harder side of things.  Techno with Breaks is becoming more popular these days, it all was about the Rave decades ago.  Now I feel like many producers are trying to bring that style back.

This is Factory for my Birthday today on October 16, 2020.  As I began to record this mix, I thought about 8 years ago and 4 years ago on this day.  So much has happened and you hit some goals only to get set back by things like a global pandemic.  2 years ago I just wanted to forget 2018 & 2019 all together and 2020 did start off with so much promise.

If the world is suffering, the music is not.  The music is all I got left in me.  But it was always like this.  There is tons of life left in the music and the sound.  I like to capture moments that nobody else would even think of.  Like breaks & techno - I take risks.   The floodgates are open today. The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
