Thinking About You (Frank Ocean) - Acoustic Cover

I wrote this song originally for a Red Cross fundraiser held in the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami of 2010. I lived and worked in Japan as an ESL teacher after University and have fond memories of that time and of the amazing friends I made there. My thoughts were with them at that time, and seeing the horrifying images of houses, cars, and people being swept away by the tsunami evoked a deep sadness. My personal connection to the country and it's people made it all the more significant. This song is a reflection of that strange irony that combines the beauty of the human spirit, and the recklessness of tragedy.

Independent Alt-Folk/Soul Singer/Songwriter

Alan Wong is the eldest son of Chinese immigrants who moved frequently across the country, from cities to small-towns, cultivating a unique Canadian experience.  He obtained a degree in Music from Brandon University studying classical voice, then, promptly left the country.  He re-kindled his passion for contemporary music on the beaches and in the pubs of Japan, where he taught English and learned to surf.   Alan returned to Canada to build a career in theatre, his first love, but the songwriting seed had been planted.  His theatre credits include “The King and I” (Rainbow Stage), “HMS Pinafore” (G&S Society), “Canadian Graffiti” and “Magical Mystery Tour” (WOW Productions), various Fringe and Independent theatre shows, as well as being a member of the Manitoba Opera Chorus.  Alan was the winner of Winnipeg’s Asian Heritage Society Talent Competition, “Asian Idol” in 2004, and continues to promote Asian heritage awareness through his involvement in historical theatre.

In 2008, Alan relocated to Vancouver with aspirations of working in Film and Television.  He was a featured performer on the shows ‘FRINGE’, and ‘CAPRICA’, and also paid the bills by working as an extra, bringing his guitar to set whenever possible and wrote songs.  After three seasons of busking on the beaches and streets of Vancouver, Alan returned to Manitoba with a wealth of covers in his repertoire, and a few originals that he has compiled onto a debut EP, “Sand & Stone”. 
 
With a voice that is equal parts smooth and soulful; his richly melodic songs are whimsical musings of Canadian reality, performed with unabashed honesty and passion.
