Hi! I’m Madelyn, aka Slowfoam. I’m a very curious artist, musician, and DJ currently based in Berlin.


q. is there a story behind the mix?

I made this mix in my favorite place in the world, watching a sunset and swatting away mosquitos in Bogliasco, Italy in the midst of a pretty intense time… so, it’s as cathartic and emotive as the moment was. 


q. what's the best way enjoy your mix?

Zoning out while cooking soup or on a slow autumnal walk. But, ideally, you can just listen to it anywhere that feels right.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

It’s this giant expanding foam sculpture that looks like a butterfly hanging above our couch; a memento from a special weekend with friends in Prague.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

Yes! Too many! At this very moment, I’m developing a collaborative monthly show exploring utopia through sound called 'our tomorrow' on Internet Public Radio.

Dewy electronics from the Bavarian forests.

Number 40 in the Theory Therapy series is a mossy bed of iridescent electronics and ambient textures by Berlin-based DJ Akimat. We absolutely love the Aussie-born selector’s taste in music and the way they craft mixes around specific themes. This one was inspired by “intricate, gentle nature in the forests of Bavaria” and features a bunch of recent favourites from Concave Reflection, dj hexscrew and Ultrafog. There’s also a forthcoming one from our label hidden in there too.

◍ What is the inspiration and vision behind your work as Nexcyia?
✹ The Nexcyia project has always been focused on experimental/ambient music. I think the inspiration and vision changes seasonally! I have moments where I focus on themes of alienation, loneliness and vulnerability and then I have points in time where my compositions are bit more free-flowing and minimal almost with a more illbient / dubby side. I’ve been adding more beats recently but currently feel like recording relaxed soundscapes for reading, walking, chilling and cooking.

◍ Describe some of your utopian dreams for us *･ﾟ:⋆*･ﾟ
✹ Well this is an interesting question because between 2015-2017 I had an obsession with “Astral Projections” and/or “Outer Body Experiences, (OBE)” I did some crazy research and was able to initiate these experiences! I think the most intense one was of me flying around my room and trying to break-out of my window! lol

◍ Any exciting things coming up that you’d like to share?
✹ Couple cool things coming up! I’m starting 3-month Residency at Noods Radio end of August - in September got 4 shows! 3 in London and one in Oslo, Norway. I’ve never been to Norway so i’m super excited.
