One of the most prolific artists on the European techno circuit, Simina Grigoriu, has steam-rolled her way through the first half of 2023 with a series of outstanding originals and remixes for a selection of the industry’s leading record labels. Following a mammoth debut on We Are The Brave with ‘Mental Warfare/Feed The Machine’ and a succeeding single for her own Kuukou Records (‘Propeller Punks’), Romania’s home-grown star now returns to OFF Recordings to deliver her latest hit, ‘False Prophets’. 

With over a decade of releases to her name, Simina’s back-catalogue has played an important role in the development of our beloved genre; the evolution of her sound profile presenting her as an act with the scope to enter into the upper echelons of techno. Taking influence from her roots in Romania and Toronto, as well her current base city of Berlin, Simina’s palate leans towards a more stripped-back and refined sound that champions percussion in its most intoxicating form. 

The follow up record to her globally-acclaimed, OFF Recordings release ‘Actuary’, Grigoriu’s ‘False Prophets’ pays homage to 90’s club culture and the industrial techno sound that it catalysed. A deep, resonating kick and rolling percussion give this record its peak-time worth, conducive to the darkened intimate clubs that it is intended for. A blissfully recondite record, Simina’s latest offering is raw and mechanic in its nature, opting for a cathartic blend of industrial timbres and heady melodic synth injections. 

One of the most respected imprints in the dance music space, Berlin-based OFF Recordings has chartered releases from the biggest names in electronic music over its fifteen year-long existence. Run by Andre Crom, the label is considered a rite of passage for many an aspiring producer and is responsible for skyrocketing countless careers.

E-HRZN Records is excited to announce the release of the “Painful Quest of Denji LP,” by Matt Altman. This thirteen track release features eight brilliant original tracks by Matt Altman alongside first-class remixes of select singles by Audio Units, Franco Rossi, JSPRV35, and Modēm.

Each of the eight original tracks is a journey through intricate, hypnotic rhythms and expansive soundscapes that showcases Matt’s dynamic and masterful ability to weave a cohesive sonic narrative throughout an album. The eight originals reflect different points and characters of the manganime “Chainsaw Man,” which follows the devil hunter Denji.

Tracks such as “Assault on the Zombie Yakuza,” “Kobeni’s Counter Attack,” and “The Brute Kishibe,” are intense incursions with heavy percussions, infectious grooves and twisted synth lines which represent powerful sequences in the plot and which are simultaneously dancefloor ready weapons.

Meanwhile, tracks such as “Himeno’s Ghostly Power,” Akuma No Katana,” and “Akuma No Yurei,” are deeper, trippier, and more hypnotic approaches to techno with ethereal synths which subtly shift and morph to create a captivating sense of progression while remaining deeply technical and aggressive in all the best ways.

Not to be overlooked is the title track, which is a brutal, percussive, mind trip of a record. Some percussion hits in the track are meant to represent the toughness of the chainsaw devil in the plot.

Each of the hand-selected remixers offer their own unique and meticulously crafted adaptations of the originals, resulting in a mesmerizing collection of tracks that is a voyage through deep, pulsating grooves, layered, driving beats, and vast sound dimensions.

Characterized by its sense of continuous motion, immersive depth, and constantly evolving structures, “The Painful Quest of Denji LP” allows listeners to lose themselves in rhythm and groove while discovering new nuances and textures with each playback.

Merlin Ettore, a.k.a. Sorcery, makes a bold return to ara’s UTIL series, diving deep with seven twisted, precision-engineered sonic tools crafted from his unmistakable sonic DNA. Hypnotic synth lines melt into surreal, mind-warping textures, while intricate grooves pulse with eccentric hooks and vivid sonic storytelling. Blurring the lines between function and fantasy, these tracks are built for the dancefloor, radiating unpredictable intensity and pushing the boundaries of functionality in club music.

SLV’s ‘Berlin. A Portrait In Music’ album on Soma receives a string of remixes from Setaoc Mass, Stanislav Tolkachev, Conforce, as well as a VIP mix from SLV himself. Hailing from Berlin, SLV is well respected for his melancholic sound design and crystalline soundscapes having released on labels like Ilario Alicante’s Virgo and Slam’s Soma. Following the release of SLV’s ambient ‘Berlin. A Portrait In Music’ album, Slam’s iconic label has invited a powerful selection of techno producers to reimagine a handful of tracks; Figure, Clergy and Work Them Records producer Setaoc Mass; Ukraine’s master of mind-bending techno, Stanislav Tolkachev; and also Delsin regular Conforce. ‘Dust’ by SK_Eleven founder Setaoc Mass brings melodic flare with enveloping synths above dark rumbling lows, before SLV’s injects some energy into ‘Talking With The Shadows’ with his own Rave Mix. incorporating moody tones and slow flowing arps with dark cavernous reverb. Krill and Mord artist Stanislav Tolkachev then offers a steady beat with euphoric chimes and vinyl hiss for his stripped back ‘First Day In The City’, preceding Dutch artist Conforce’s ‘Forest Voices’ which balances unearthly sound design and a steppy drum pattern.
