On his debut LP “Highlights”, Jawn Rice puts another rare bird feather in the already colourful Mutual Intentions cap. In a unique mesh, Jawn’s deep house is reminiscent of your favourite boogie and jazz-funk jams, yet remains forward leaning in its hyper modern production style. This meeting of the old and the new provides the perfect atmosphere for guest appearances by legendary jazz vibraphone player Craig Peyton and Westcoast funkateer K-Maxx. Such innovative club music could be mistaken for the musical bastard child of Roy Ayers and Larry Heard. And still, “Highlights” undoubtedly flaunts the multifaceted DNA of Jawn Rice. His subtle use of samples, vibrant keyboard soundscapes and vivid drum programming makes for a special debut. One that, as a track B3 is entitled, will make you “Search Your Feelings”.

Brine is a producer based in Bologna, Italy who has
spent the last decade crafting a wide variety of dance
music that often blurs the lines between house and
funky disco. As a DJ his formative years were spent in
London, playing at hot spots like Egg London and
later at San Francisco’s Monarch nightclub. With a
heavy knowledge of jazz and a healthy lust for dreamy
Balearic grooves, Brine blends it all from his secret
laboratory known as Tree House Studios. Out on the
road he is always hunting for rare records and
exploring new jams to drop on your ears. His smooth
& natural ability to move a packed dance floor of any
kind makes him as exciting on the turntables as he is
in the studio.

Forthcoming from the collaboration between Nikitch & Kuna Maze, “Francis’ Theme” (out 19th May) merges jazz-infused broken beat with the melodic-driven edge of Brazilian funk. “Francis’ Theme” is the latest single to be lifted from the duo’s superlative first LP ‘Débuts’ which is set for release on the 3rd July. Being the only vocal track on the record, Eduoard Gilbert aka Kuna Maze explains its back story: “We sung on Francis’ Theme which is something we would have not dared to do before. We’ve moved beyond some of the aesthetical frontiers we had in our creative path with this song.” Nicolas Morant aka Nikitch takes the track into flight with his transverse flute mirroring the guest vocals of friend and collaborator Eva, while Kuna Maze’s Fender Jazzbass grounds the song.
