Umbral is an independent project space and a nomadic international festival. It is a space of resistance and critique whose focus is on practices around sound in the present.

For this 50th edition, we are creating a 24-hour marathon on 6 different radio stations. To do so, we have sent commissions and invitations to various people to create one-hour pieces or experiences. The radio stations collaborating with us are Radio Tsonami (Chile), Radio CASO (Argentina), Radio Alhara (Palestine), Radio Ensayo (Merida) and WKCR (New York).

As a self-critical exercise and trying to be congruent to the current context in which situations, urgencies, crises that show us the unsustainability of our society emerge day by day, we have decided that after 50 editions, this project/social-sound sculpture will come to an end.

The clock chimed loudly in the empty square but there was nobody left to hear it. They had all left this town long ago, escaping the concrete jungle for a warmer, more welcoming climate.

The ticking of the old thing was perhaps the only sign that anyone had in fact ever lived here. Soon that too would stop and there would be no sense of time to guide what remained of this old place.

Who knew when the final five minutes might be up?

After the legendary French Ethno-industrial group Vox Populi! faded into obscurity in the early 1990s, members Arash Khalatbari, Ariel Kyrou, Axel Kyrou, Chester Harlan, Mithra, Pierre Jolivet and Francis Manne all embarked on new artistic adventures in their own way. Some, like bassist Francis Lafont aka fr6 Manne, aka Kosa Nostra, aka Kosa and Friends, left Paris to make a profound change in his life. He settled in Lyon and traded his job as a graphic artist and musician for that of a landscape designer. From his pure artistic universe, he has never stopped making music.

Today, Notte Brigante presents “Kosa and Friends 1987/97”, twelve previously unreleased recordings that illustrate Francis Laffont’s ongoing musical creation following the dissolution of the group Vox Populi! With the music and video collective “Kosa and Friends,” he welcomes attentive listeners into an eccentric world of pop and poetry, experimentation and groove. Kosa blurs the lines between proto funk and post punk, indie and cold wave.

Welsh born, Birmingham-based DJ/producer Trieste explores the strange & psychedelic fringes of dance music; meandering through downtempo chug and beatless soundscapes, to euphoric breaks, psychedelic techno and weighty bass sounds. No genre or tempo is off-limits. 

With a curious desire to explore new frontiers within the music community he's also positioned himself as a founding force in a number of other creative projects. His event brand Voyage Events has brought unique live shows and DJ sets to cities across the UK, working with artists like HAAi, Zaltan, Om Unit, Moxie, Mehmet Aslan, Sofia Kourtesis and Daniel Avery to name a few. And as co-founder of Birmingham-London based label Erbium Records, working alongside fellow DJ/producer Jay Carder and graphic designer Oliver Green, Trieste helps support and curate a wide variety of leftfield club sounds and cinematic audio projects from the likes of Mani Festo, Zobol, Manami, Pluralist, Mincy, An Avrin and more.

Onis is a long-time wolf of the Vilnius night scene, having mixed various electronic genres during his career. At the same time, he is one of the main pillars of Kablys Club, taking care of many aspects of the club's activities. Nowadays, Onis is turning out unpredictable sets that are different every time, and that's why he deserves a place among the capital's most interesting DJs.
