It's a long time since I wrote a song. Eventually I did...inspired by studying the Northumbrian Minstrelsy and remembering, it doesn't matter if it sounds like another song, it doesn't matter if the words are groundbreaking, it's just simple folk, for simple folk and no matter how I try and always come back to it!

It's a song about craving the change that winter brings, the exciting cold crisp that reminds me of home and North, how magical it is but then after the glamour and twinkle of Christmas how it's time for a reprieve - especially for the folks back home where it does stay colder a lot longer!
(My Venezuelan Girlfriend doesn't quite get the glamour I attach to the cold!!)

The Castle of Dromore

This song is a dialogue between my partner Eliana and her sunflowers out on the balcony....it's a true love song.
Every day she and the sunflowers truly do lift their heads with the sun and wait for the bees.
It's also a nod to the drastic decline in bee population due to the destruction of wild habitats, disease and pesticide use.
Eliana has been planting everything she can to bring the bees to the balcony this year and they certainly seem to be happy visiting the sunflowers in particular

The NHS is a lifesaving institution, literally! Sadly the cuts imposed by the last ten years of Tory government and the deliberate destabilisation of it have taken their toll. Moreover they have primed it to be sold and privatised Working as a nurse I can vouch for all the scary stories you hear and they're due to resources NOT due to the staff. The staff are running the NHS on less resources and more goodwill. We need money put back into it, we need staff put back into it, we need staff to want to stay and to feel valued, not broken, not thrown out. The front line staff are suffering, the fat cats are getting fatter. The deception of the Tory government is unforgivable. Boris flumping around the hospitals for cleverly engineered photoshoots meanwhile farming out portions of our NHS, indeed our very hospital buildings are being sold from under our noses. This country needs to take back its NHS and be proud of it and nurture it and its staff so that they can take care of you!
