Reptilian Terminals

This is a song about a dehumanized human being inserting code strings on the terminal console of his computer, and convincing himself of being somehow almighty or immortal, thanks to the privileged relationship he thinks he has established with the processor. But his computer's crude response is that he's just a freaking out mortal creature...

This is one of many beautiful poems written by my brother Ciaran. I can really relate to this one and for me it really captures how it feels when you know that the person you love is pulling away and all the unspoken words you long to say but are afraid to so you stay silent and then the idea of wolves surrounding you and howling, as if expressing all the pain thats inside and that stays with you long after the person is gone

Wolves

Saw Donovan in concert in The Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow not so long ago, It was an anniversary concert, and he said that this was the first big place that he performed in, and it was like coming home. He sat crossed legged on a little rug on the floor, despite his old bones and charmed us with his music and storytelling. It was a very vibrant Glaswegian audience, a lot of them probably personal friends of old and family, so a great deal of heckling and laughter, which he took in his stride, and I'm sure he very much enjoyed the huge love and  warmth that filled the theatre that night!
Love his music, and difficult to choose only one, but this was a favourite of a dear old friend.

The basic tracks for some of these songs were scattered through other music I had recorded over the last ten years.  Quarantine has given me the time to hear some of this music with fresh ears. In most instances dozens of instrument tracks were stripped away to find some forgotten core that made me nod or smile.  Then I started again.  All new recording has been done since the start of lock down and tries to put a sound on the subtle dislocation of a global disaster that is mostly (for me) expressed in my daily life as an absence, a taking away rather than a presence; a distantly felt thing.
