Sheldon Drake was fortunate to be around NYC for the Illbient scene in the mid 90s, with its sleazy heaving thumps and uneasy drones. He hosted the weekly Undercity at Halcyon for 4 years, and in Berlin was resident with lsb_TV, a 6 hour Saturday night cable show of experimental sound and video, 2013-18.

ZharkOfArc presents Sheldon Drake

This month sees the 30th anniversary reissue of “Music for Nitrous Oxide”, the debut album from seminal ambient / drone artists Stars of the Lid. 

Adam Wiltzie marks this milestone with an hour of music that influenced him and fellow member, Brian McBride, who sadly passed away in 2023. The mix features sounds from Cocteau Twins, Ennio Morricone, Vangelis, as well as original tracks.

It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal neoliberalist mould, we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Regardless of one’s point of reference, we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

This month we have invited @airtexture to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero-patriarchal systems of oppression.
