What is the inspiration behind this album? How did you come up with the name?
My new album is about exploring the edges and boundaries of electro as a genre. But it’s not just about experimenting with sounds and styles, it’s also about exploring the natural world around us. For me, nature has always been a source of inspiration and I wanted to capture that feeling of a fresh morning in a misty forest, with the scent of trees and plants in the air. The mystic of old woods and everything living in it. That’s why I named the album “A Brand New Day”.


How did you overcome challenges with this album?
When it comes to creating music or other forms of art, there are always challenges. For me, the biggest hurdles are often mental. The more I pour myself into my music, the more self-doubt creeps in. Questions like “Is it good enough?” and “Will people like it?” start to take over. Even the question “Do I like it?” can be a challenge. But I’ve learned that these challenges are a natural part of the creative process and that the best way to overcome them is to keep pushing forward. After all, the most important thing is to create something that is true to yourself and your vision.


How did you decide on the label who releases your music?
I’m thrilled to be working with Neurom, which is run by my dear friend Rolphëus Gheo. Rolph is an inspiring person and I really respect his open-mindedness and creative vision. I’ve had the pleasure of releasing music on his label before, under my techno alter ego Tramtunnel, and now I’m back with an electro release as Lloyd Stellar. While I’ve always appreciated Neurom as a label, the biggest reason I wanted to work with them again is because of Rolph.


How did you find match in this label where your album is releasing?
Neurom is a label that’s all about capturing a feeling, rather than fitting into a specific genre. And I think that’s what makes it such a great fit for my new album.


An instrument or device that has been monumental in this album? And why?
I’m absolutely in love with my Korg Prologue 16 synthesizer. It’s hands down my favorite instrument in the world. I’ve used it extensively on this album, as well as on all my other work over the past three years. It has its limitations and flaws. But for me, the sound it produces is simply unparalleled. I’ve owned a lot of synthesizers over the years, but this one is truly special to me. It’s become an integral part of my creative process. I could never imagine parting with it.


How soon can we expect your next release and what is that going to be about? 
My next release is an EP called "Phantom Passenger" and will be released on February 28th, 2024. This project has been in the works for a while now. In fact, it was made three years ago! But it's been sitting at the label Burial Soil all this time, waiting for the perfect moment to be unleashed. It's quite different from this album. I like exploring sounds and styles and I think that's what keeps things fresh and interesting. After all, who wants to hear the same thing over and over again?

- Legowelt, Kraftwerk, Burial, Anthony Rother, Plant43.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- Two EPs coming this year on Exploited Records and on Wave Function Records.

Which artists/labels are more relevant to you now?

- Plant43 is the electro artist i like the most these days.

What inspires you now to create music?

- I get inspired by messing around with my synthesizers and listening to music.

What set-up do you use when creating music?

- In the studio these days I mainly use: Vermona DRM1, Korg Prologue 16, Roland SH101, Roland JV2080, Roland Jupiter Xm and a bunch of Eurorack modules.
For my live set I use a whole lot of Eurorack modules and two 1010Music Blackbox samplers that are filled with loops of beats from my tracks. I use a modular Eurorack setup, because it is small enough to take with me in a backpack.

Strange But Dance Music LIVE #15: Lloyd Stellar

As a 14 year old kid back in 1992, i recorded a beautiful electronic tune from the radio to a cassette tape. I listened to it a lot. I really loved the synthesizers and vocal sample on it. I had no idea what this track was. 

After a lot of searching recently, i found out it was "Electrotete - I Love You" in the "Bug eyed bears from Venus mix". 

I wanted to honor it by making it an unofficial electro remix.

This free album is my little protest against the company taking my name. Hopefully people that search for their product end up with my music in stead of the other way around. The old switcheroo!

Mix #061 comes from the boss of one of the most influential and important electro labels in recent years, Bass Agenda head-honcho, Andy Barton.


Andy created Bass Agenda as a podcast series on Soundcloud in early 2012. Over the years the show has been hosted by various radio stations before reaching its home on Juan Atkins’ DeepSpaceRadio.com in Detroit. The show has evolved into a magazine style format – with features, interviews, mixes, and live sets from a broad range of Electro and Techno artists and DJs including Dave Clarke, Anthony Rother, AUX88, The Egyptian Lover, Helena Hauff, Dez Williams, David Meiser, ADULT, Plant 43, and many more. The shows and musical impact of people like Dave Clarke, John Peel, and Gilles Peterson inspired Andy to make the show what it has become. The show reaches its 200th episode in the next couple of months.

Bass Agenda Recordings began in 2013, with its debut ‘The Fight Against the Mundane’ featuring many of the guests that had appeared on the show in its first year. The label is due to take break for 6 to 12 months after over 100 releases on digital, vinyl, CD, and USB formats. Before then there are three releases to come on vinyl from the Dutch Transhumanism collective (w1b0, RXmode, TFHats, and Slaves of Sinus), an EP from Detroit’s Filthiest, and album from Bass Junkie. Tracks from all three of these are featured in Andy’s mix. In 2020 Andy curated CAREBOT, a massive 100+ tracks compilation raising money for NHS Charities Together and Médecins Sans Frontières Covid-19 initiatives. So far, the CAREBOT$ has raised over £8,000.
