Zusa.M aka Djonni Laser presents „adaptive cycle“
Composed in august 2024 during 2 weeks residency at Lindabrunn Symposion 
The Sound Performance ‚adaptive cycle’ - with electronic and analogue sound sources - consists of different cycles that merge into one another and represent a large overall cycle. Sound experiments from the Nord Synth and Doepfer Dark Energy represent the depth and pulse of sensitivity and resilience. Piano Sequences, Beats and Rhythms bring in rituality and energetic tension.
Water and metal sound experiments - as opposing materials - heard separately, together and fused.  
Water, as origin, life-giving element, in the cave, womb, moving, flowing.
The metal, hard, rusty, sharp, unpleasant, disturbing.

Zusa.M - german: zusammen - A project name, without clear personification
A connecting moment - together 
A conceptual music project that aims to bring together people and places
Creating a shared experience and thus enabling a shared memory
All participants with their own subjective background, their own system come together and surrender to a moment
Limited in time and space in order to present a system that is as clear as possible and that everyone perceives equally as a system from the beginning to the end of the presentation
It has a natural effect, but internally, the external stimuli of the presentation are (almost) the same for everyone.

The SES (socio-ecological system): 
the stone arena as an ecological place, stone sculptures organically fit into the existing nature, dry grassland, pines, grasses, insects, the cave with its own system, acoustics, climate 
The participants as a social structure: People of different ages, backgrounds, genders, professions, interests, bodies, abilities, 
Everything is constantly evolving in different cycles of adaptation 
Through shared experience, certain parameters can be developed together
Shared memory (panarchy) - shared revolt 
Sensitivity is only possible if empathy is present, 
Shared experience is helpful for understanding others

The composition ‘adaptive cycle’ was created in an improvisation during the production stay in the container studio. Polyrhythms and the overlapping of patterns of different lengths, challenge for the brain and the coordination of the hands. New focal points are constantly emerging, sometimes those of 7/8, sometimes those of 8/8 or 5/8... 
The 7/8 time in a division of 3 and 4 quavers shows a shorter and a longer temporal section
as well as the temporal sequence in the adaptive cycle: collapse/release = shorter
Reorganisation - growth/development - maintenance = longer
I also find the connection with the adaptive cycle concept in the superimposition of patterns of different lengths. These are systems of different sizes that happen at the same time and overlap.each other in changing hierarchies. For example, an 8/8 or a 5/8 pattern overlaps the 7/8 bar and it takes a while (common denominator) until they meet again at a common 1 (main centre of gravity).
