r/SongAWeek Submission - week 52: Resolution

This week I play with the idea of resolution in several ways: 

First, all resolution is the act of coming back around to resolve into the next thing; so the title is an homage to resolution in this way.

The track is a return to my vocal + acoustic roots, and comes back around after a year of exploring other instrumentation. 

The arrangement itself is a relatively simple one; I wade comfortably between the D6 and Dsus6/9 for the main beginning, and then dive into the depths of an Em/A, Em/G/A break, after which going into the turnaround wherein D, D7, G and E7 resolve blissfully back into the D6. Each go around sees a new voicing of the same progression added; strengthening the resolution each time. 

the vocals are simple and themselves go into rounds the second time they appear. 

This track was mixed by an old friend; a person very close to me since childhood who has achieved greater heights in production than I have. in fact my current Volt 276 interface and condenser mic, along with several VST packages, were a gift from him for my birthday this year. This gift was what ushered me into my home studio journey that you all have seen and heard throughout the submissions In offer. 

In this way the song is also a resolution to him: a show of my resolve to keep growing and learning and making use of his wonderful gift.

This week was odd.

I hit on a beautiful alcoholic at the bar and forgot our conversation the next day while resuming to hit on her via text. 

At the same time I discover a schizophrenic homeless man living in our shed, and barter that he has 3 days to vacate until police are called. I mention this to my potential lover.

She calls me out for being an alcoholic who forgot our convo and invites me to an AA meeting.

I begin writing this song that day and use the (lydian I believe) progression;

* Fm#7
* Amaj7
* B7

And then:

* Emaj7
* Cmaj7
* F#m7
* B7

And some modulations thereof

Later I attend said AA meeting, and who else is there but the unhoused man I am trying to displace as well as the alcoholic woman I hit on who invited me.

Then I wrote lyrics.
