Swallowing, suffocating, yet free of shackles.

In the darkness of oblivion, where the horizons rest,
We find ourselves, naked and vulnerable,
Lost in the void, yet somehow safe.

Horizons have a powerful effect on us. Not only do they represent a physical boundary at the end of our vision, but they also have a metaphorical meaning for our minds. They symbolise the unknown, the new and the potential for discovery. Wide horizons convey a sense of freedom and adventure, while limited horizons often evoke narrowness and restriction.

Horizons are often associated with hope. They promise a bright future, a new beginning or the achievement of a specific goal. When we cast our eyes over the horizon, we can imagine the possibilities that lie beyond.

But what happens when we lose sight of the horizon? Disorientation and existential anxiety can be the result. The loss of horizons, whether due to social changes or personal circumstances, means not only the loss of orientation, but also the loss of hopes and dreams. We feel trapped in an endless fog of uncertainty.

Without a horizon, we lack the imagination to see what lies behind us and therefore the motivation to move in any particular direction. This can lead to lethargy, depression and even existential crisis if we feel that our world has lost its boundaries and there is no safe harbour to which we can return.

To counteract this, it is important to recognise the importance of horizons for our mental wellbeing and to make sure that we do not lose sight of our dreams and hopes. We should also connect with other people and seek support in difficult times. By taking care of ourselves and our own needs, we can strengthen our mental health and better protect ourselves against the effects of horizon loss.
