Returning to the Podcast for yet another round of Mach 4 techno comes Mala Junta head honcho DJ Tool, a live recording from his clubnight’s Bassiani takeover back in March. Ahead of Amniote Editions’ 5 year anniversary night at Bassiani on the 6th of December (cancelled due to street protests) comes a very special mix from Munich’s finest, BASHKKA. Derived from the Turkish word for ‘different’ (she has roots there), the name reflects a no f*cks given approach to sound and culture that draws people toward her like moth to flame. From formative days in New York City where she started taking inspiration from its wealth of queer histories, she carved an insubordinate sound that’s crossed the Atlantic and set up shop in her native Germany, where her liberating tunes have found common cause with such venues as Blitz Club, Panorama Bar and Amsterdam’s Raum just a hop and a skip across the border. The aim is to reclaim spaces, assert the existence of marginalised groups (SWANA people like herself for one), amplify their narratives and create moments’ where ‘individual heartbeats merge into one motherbeat’. Further to those activist visions, her debut EP Maktub (2023) was a five-track banger and labour of love that synthesised Kurdish vocal samples with runaway beats. The reference to overlooked perspectives and elusive spark found at the intersection of culture and sound is the driving force, and something that’s felt in the gut when she plays. It’s a much needed energy in turbulent times, a reminder that you can save the world and have fun doing it. For Bassiani Podcast 242, BASHKKA brings her inimitable rhythms to the fore of the counter-cultural struggle: brazen and rave-ready, a two-hour trip to the future, slamming beats from a true icon.

Last year, on November 30th, Fuse welcomed Denmark's Mama Snake to our control room in light of her Amniote Editions night.  With an untamed aura spreading through the space, the dark hours were marked by hypnotic, slightly mental, and utterly intense temperaments.

Snapping between writhing acid lines, crisp tribal rhythms, and trance-laced techno, her selections struck a perfect balance between the meditative and the manic. The floor was hers: fluid, fierce, and full of intent. A reminder that mastery doesn’t always shout; it listens, reacts, and dares to draw outside the lines when the need knocks.

@fadimohem is right at the heart of contemporary techno. He brings his own twist on the classic sound - deep, rhythmic and atmospheric. He's a Berghain resident whose first contact with the genre came at the hallowed club, and since then, he has blazed his own trail on the most influential labels in the scene, including his own Mohem imprint. This year, he plays twice at Dekmantel Festival, once as part of WSNWG Live and once on the Radar stage.

Ahead of that, he has put together an exclusive one-hour live set comprised only of unreleased music. It's a masterclass in control that embodies just what you get from Fadi in the club: deep techno planted firmly on the floor but always going somewhere. As dubbed out low ends, glitchy textures and more tripped out melodies come and go, the tension ramps up while both body and mind stay locked.

If the electronic music industry is caught in the crosshairs of a battle over what makes for true techno, then D.Dan is one of the underground's great modern emissaries.

A figurehead from the new guard of DJs to arise in the '20s, the Berlin-based artist and Mala Junta resident is an ambassador for a sound that is strongly anchored in the classic roots of techno. His productions, like his mixes, are revved-up takes on the hypnotic wormholes that defined dance floors last decade, but with a fresh (and high BPM) millennial twist. 

Originally from Seattle, D.Dan became enamoured with the spectral stylings of psych rock and shoegaze in adolescence. It's not difficult to see how the cosmic tapestry of bands like Cocteau Twins became a blueprint for the entrancing music he's gone on to make as an adult. His releases on Mutant Future and summerpup are latticeworks of loops and layered percussion, custom-tooled for lost hours on the dance floor and drawn-out mixes behind the decks. 

This approach directly extends into his DJ practice, where he pairs song selections from contemporaries that mirror his own reduced, controlled approach to techno. RA.994 is a Grade A display of contemporary four-to-the-floor from flagbearers like Roll Dann and Marcal.

And like D.Dan's standalone records, his RA Podcast finds room for sweetness—the intermittent peal of an open clap, the steady ripening of a chord—while ultimately emphasising the beauty of function and form over flair.

"It's very direct, danceable club music, anchored stylistically between Electro, Techno and Industrial/NewWave, strongly influenced by '80s acts Liaisons Dangereuses, CH BB, sporadically, DAF and the Consumed /Concept period of Richie Hawtin." is how Hanno Leichtmann describes his new project Gesetz Der Oktaven. "The name 'Gesetz Der Oktaven' was chosen because I wanted something very German sounding, as we say 'sperrig', something technical, scientific. All the track titles are very old skool or obsolete studio/audio terms. "I wanted a completely new set-up, so I got a large Soundtracs desk from the 80s with 16 channels and, crucially 6 Aux Sends for effects." He continues, "The large number of aux sends was essential for the project. I used a drum machine, a MiniMoog sequenced by a TB 303, a vintage Drum Synth and six 6 effect combinations for the delay / reverb tracks. All very old-skool and in real time with no plugins. It took months of trial and error but the result is a very beautiful high-quality vintage studio sound."

Gesetz Der Oktaven - Verpolung - Third Ear Recordings

An intense introspection of sound deconstructionism and spacial dissonance presented in this 4 track (plus 2 lock grooves) EP entitled Nonharmonic Beautifault. 

The A Side is introduced with the track 'Blank Hand', a sludge fuelled walk into dusty audio bites and asthmatic rhythms, topped with screaming hoovers and TV static that at once builds up, collapses into beautiful cacophony. Leading us into the 'Body Molecule' - A rushing pad and sparkling percussion pinned to a rolling kick pattern that drives this track toward a central point of attacking synths and swarming soundscape. The run out locked groove features a deep distorted kick that loops into infinity. 

The other side starts with 'Angular Beautifault'. Acidic Rhythms and Buzz Saw Synths all washed together into a shimmering reverberated cavern that explodes with high powered clap patterns and bubbling 303 lines. Following this we have 'The Burin' - an uncompromising, high paced assault of power kicks and slanted percussion. Incessantly driving and unyielding towards the final lock groove of distorted sub loop. 

Nonharmonic Beautifault represents a shift in Positive Centre's work that aims beyond the delicate ambience into harder and darker sound territories. 

Nonharmonic Beautifault EP will be released on 12" vinyl and digital on February 19.
