Having taken a step back from the daily running of Fast Forward, Sugar’s got the room to focus on making the type of lightning-fast techno Denmark’s known for. He’s largely responsible for an unstoppable wave that has seen a resurgence of trance across his city, as well as the fusion of the capital’s punk and techno scenes. These days he’s exporting this future-facing utopia to a wider world with Horoom a natural stop on that tour. As part of his agency’s showcase at the club back in May, he put together this hair-raising crescendo of manic rhythms, a wall of sound unmistakably his. Since rolling his musical sleeves up in 2006, the name Voiski has exponentially grown in renown; his endless quest for new sounds manifested across a number of releases and self-started labels like Silicate and Super 95. Add to that a cosmically ordained taste for collaboration that has seen him join forces with names as diverse as Vril, Antigone and Svengalisghost and you have one of the most prolific and exciting names to have come out of France in the last decade. There’s a touch of classic loop techno, noughties electro and a newfound affection for Persian mysticism in his work, eagerly cross-bred to make his inimitable ‘post-trance’ sound. A new set from the Before The Curfew series, performed by Chontane at Ground Floor on December 7, 2024, is now available on our SoundCloud.

For his Ground Floor selection, the dj leaned into slower rhythms and minimalist sound—music that unfolds gradually, inviting a subtle shift from light to darkness. Chontane dug into tracks from the 2000s and 2010s, chasing a sound that blends naturally into the space and lets the story unfold without rush or pressure.

Before the Curfew is a series of music podcasts that emerged in 2022 after the reopening of the club following the liberation of the Kyiv region. All recordings presented in this series take place before midnight before the curfew begins. Before the Curfew offers a vibrant snapshot of the Ukrainian music scene amidst challenging times, celebrating resilience, creativity, and unity through music.
