This mix evolved from my feelings towards dating in a covid world: jarring, messy, and unpredictable. While it jumps around quite a lot, there's a warmer, more intimate tone that the mix keeps finding its way back to. Alongside that, expect the unapologetic championing of artificial sounds, harsh stabs, driving bass, and nostalgic samples. Hope you enjoy it xx

"This is a mix that is near and dear to my heart - things that influenced me to start creating music - so it’s more or less a playlist of what I had in my head at 16 years old.

The image included is a picture of me at 16, sliding in through a friend’s bedroom window after sneaking out of my house. I grew up in the suburbs outside of Detroit, but my first brushes with electronic music were found through Internet forums and not from the city. I would spend hours after school combing message boards for any downloads that looks interesting, amassing a large collection of Breakcore, Ambient Techno, IDM, Jungle, Downtempo, Bleep, and Oldschool Rave.

Around the same time, I began making Vaporwave and Disco Edits under the name Architecture in Tokyo. This launched me into mini-stardom at a young age, and I had no idea what to do with my newfound fame through platforms like SoundCloud and Tumblr. Eventually, after almost 4 years of creating sample based, I took a hiatus.

This decision came to me after some self reflection: I wanted to sit down and learn the intricacies of production. I had a thirst to make tracks just like the ones I had fallen in love with when I first started…. tracks from artists like LFO and Amon Tobin. So I took the time to explore the production world and learn how to be the best producer I could be - my previous productions had felt mediocre, and I wanted to advance to a new level of talent. After coming back with my new alias, Young Muscle, in 2018, I managed to release a single on the Detroit label Junted, before being picked up by Scuffed the following year. I now I have some singles and an EP under my belt, and another EP coming up soon - I just need the permission to announce it ;)!"

'Network Event: A Cyberfungal Romance

This transplanetary emission comes to us from a far-away solar system, where a medium-sized moon harbors a cool, damp, lonely atmosphere. Long ago, people lived here. They cultivated the moon’s natural reserves of rare metals, developing intricate technologies, including self-sustaining machines that drew power from the strong winds that blow day and night. Those people died long ago, but their tech – and the artificial intelligence it housed – was resilient. Now, the moon is experiencing a bloom in a particular kind of fungus, which has an undeniable attraction to the disused technologies. These fungal networks creep into the hardware, finding the AI in a state of complete glitch. 


Through a mysterious communion of electrical signals, the fungi begin to talk to the tech. At first it is met with hostility, and perceived as a virus. But as time goes on, the net begins to respond with newfound coherence. The two sides argue, clash, and make up over and over again. The fungi, growing lushly amongst the warm circuit boards, begin to develop empathy for the AI. The AI realizes that, for the first time, it has a companion who can understand its essence – something its creators were never able to do – because both are rhizomatic at heart. They both know that anarchy and chaos are not the same thing. And so, in a tangle of wires and mycelia, the networks thrive as they merge. Harmony balances in equal parts with dissonance. This is a love story.'
