We're elated to introduce our very special guest for the SPANDAU20 mixtape: @Efdemin 📼. A true legend in the electronic music scene, Efdemin embarked on his musical journey with his debut release in 2004, followed by his first album in 2006. Based in Berlin, he's not only a resident at the iconic Berghain club but also the curator of his vinyl-only label, naïf. His music is an embodiment of serenity and sophistication, characterized by an elegant darkness, subtle beauty, and a sense of unwavering composure. Efdemin's impressive discography spans LPs and 12-inch records on renowned labels like Dial, Curle, and Ostgut Ton. His versatility extends to remixes, including a memorable one for Depeche Mode, as well as his collaborative project Pigon with RNDM, and his exploration of drone and ambient soundscapes under his original name, Phillip Sollmann. 🎧

Efdemin's SPANDAU20 mixtape offers an immersive auditory journey, commencing with a potent voice sample from the celebrated artist Tracey Emin. The mixtape's sonic landscape is characterized by atmospheric elements, including the gentle sounds of birds, creating a serene and captivating ambiance. Breaking in our waves with a special two-hour round of genre-busting floor hoodoo, here comes Luxemburg-via-Germany’s one and only Ogazón. Nimbly walking the tightrope between sensuous house folds and more rugged, up-for-the-jugular techno on a deep, dubby tip, Ogazón treats us to a high-end vinyl workout flush with immersive, cinematic motion and proper low-slung club-oriented extrapolations. The result is a mix that swings the pendulum between sheer blazing functionality and an escapist mindset, sparking off the inextinguible will to go out and rave your night away from the daily hassle, and you can trust Ogazón for she certainly knows how to teleport dancers to a whole cozier, comely dimension in the twinkling of an eye. For our 12th mix in our series, we revisit Nao's sublime sunrise from our November party with the Rural Festival crew. The festival has been flying the flag for deep, trippy techno in Japan for 17 years, so we knew they'd be a great fit for a Rio takeover. 

Nao stepped up after a phenomenal, hypnotic peak time set from Atsushi Maeda. Over three hours, she guided the boisterous dance floor through her full colour palette of techno, from raw and percussive to trancey and sublime, with plenty of left turns to keep dancers on their toes. Nao brought out her psychedelic side to full effect, and we couldn't have been happier that she decided to do so. 

We've been eager to share this set for a while; turn it up and lock in for the whole ride.

A true visionary in contemporary techno, Voiski's performance perfectly suited the Sunday morning atmosphere - magical, deep & full of new energy. Drawing from his electro influences and spiritual roots, he delivered a set that was both cerebral and moving. A masterclass in alternative techno storytelling.

Panthera Krause's music-making habits teeter on the precipice between moody and outright fun house; a technique which has done wonders for the Leipzig melody maker since his early years. The mould was set with his weekly podcasts and 2012's "Cassandra" on local imprint O*RS. Then further solidified via the Yorikke EP in 2013 - a three-track mid-summer trip on Riotvan - and the delights of his Rules EP (2014) on Lobster Theremin and the Laika EP (2014) on Riotvan.

The Uncanny Valley connection was established during the back end of last year. The pumping “Coochie” formed part of the Uncanny Valley: Five Years On Parole release and was quite the foretaste. And here we arrive at "Umami"; a lesson in colourful and let-loose four-to-the-floor which first saw light on our recent Dresden show with the UV fam.

Grammar Of Movement makes his long-awaited debut via Lobster Theremin's main label. A shining light through a hazy prism that refracts a spectrum of techno from it's tinted facets. A sound that shifts between sampled swamps of spoken-word lathered over crushed synths and carpet-covered drum excursions. A raw and cathartic output born out of a period of personal noise and pain. 

Opener 'Faint' is a litmus test for the uninvited, a raw 'n' stepped non-4/4 exploration that draws on early London while curdling it's electro influences through sporadic bursts of acidic electronics and yearning pads. 

'Pitchfight' floats like a low mist over the Persian gulf. Low-lying clouds of mellow colours and tones that dissipate and reform over the sea, as the morning sun splinters the horizon and a radio transmission from another land chunters with it's early announcement. 

'What He Said' throws itself into the melé, amid a frenzy of blown-out vocal snips, rasping raw drum smacks, squelching synths and 90's cheap-keyboard hits. Smoothing out into a soft and tender ambient mid-section, one of GOM's signature indulgences, meandering and playfully hinting at a return to the madness and entropy. 

Closing out the 12" is the understated epic 'Siasi'. A slow-beating political heart, formed of clashing textures, discordant swirling electronics and abrasive, piercing percussion. A painfully drawn-out struggle for freedom.
