Kasper Marott’s back with a second bout of electronic mischief for Bassiani Podcast 197. The Copenhagen based selector’s been around for many years and has only improved his knack for rhythms from one to the next, that and his singular aptitude for reading a room and playing to a crowd’s most primal instincts. His releases on Seilscheibenpfeiler, Kulør and his own imprint Axces every bit as catchy as his longer monologues behind decks. A little note on Axces: collective’s a closer descriptor, a group of friends and feedback loop designed to create all manner of wonderful sounds, visual artefacts and memorable parties that includes Marott’s buddies Alfredo92, Popmix, Søren Kinch, A. Waze and Martin Gilleshøj. Back to its co-founder: Marott’s a tried hand whose genre-bending flair is both austere and playful, straddling the binaries that often threaten to typecast aspiring DJs. His airy and saccharine disco a world away from the techno frenzy he manifests for this latest instalment. This is his closing set from the club floor back in December, nine hours of warped loops and general techno frenzy. Pulsating rave from this charismatic Danish phenom.

JakoJako (@jakojako_live) always wanted to make music and her self-confessed hyperactivity ultimately led to her getting the most joy out of playing about with machines and patching up synths. These days the Berghain resident is a celebrated live act and DJ who draws on the considerable knowledge she picked up working at Berlin's legendary synth shop SchneidersLaden, but she has also worked on several high-profile motion sensor dance projects at places like The Royal Albert Hall. Her smart sound designs and unique rhythms have landed on Leisure System, Tresor and Figure and she has a new EP coming on Mute this June.

Her mix for us this week features a sneak preview of one of the tracks from that EP as well as mixing up music from Alaric, Siege, Altinbas and many more. It's full of high-speed sounds couched loosely in techno but with moods and textures borrowed from industrial, minimal and even trance as things reach an emotional peak late on. Though she broke through as a live act, this set shows JakoJako can now speak just as freely through the decks.

"It's a dream to share a passion with your best friend." The German duo talk about life on the road and writing their first album in six years.

Together, Felix Wagner and Aaron Röbig make up the dynamic duo FJAAK. As one of Germany's best-known nightlife exports, they've earned a reputation for being techno's "boy band," gracing the stages of festivals and clubs all over the world for the last ten-plus years.

Wagner and Röbig met in Spandau, an area just outside of Berlin, when they were both still in school. Equally interested in music (especially hip-hop), they started working on beats together alongside two other friends. The four-person group turned into FJAAK, and when they all moved to the city centre together after finishing their studies, they started living collectively and touring the project, achieving traction quickly.

FJAAK is now just a duo—the group dwindled from four people to three, and then, in 2019, to just Röbig and Wagner. They claim they're closer to soulmates than friends; they know everything about each other and seem so in tune as to be almost telepathic. "The super power we've evolved over the years is to live a harmonic life together," Wagner said. 

In this RA Exchange, Röbig and Wagner talk about navigating through life with someone by their side, their thoughts on equality and meritocracy in the music industry, how they work together in the studio, their record label and their new album, FJAAK THE SYSTEM, which came out in May. We had the pleasure of taking you from the night into sunrise through many sub-genres in our record collection. It felt so good having the freedom to craft the set exactly how we wanted on a setup that had been perfectly tweaked by Lyra Audio + crew over the course of 2 days.   

We spent around 6 months planning this event. Everything from the lighting (@seanclarke) to the sound, personally applying for a TEN to use the space (that’s another story altogether) and how the event would run.
 
When you have all the these other variables running alongside an event it can be difficult to lock into the set at your own party but this time everything worked out and we’re really excited to share the memory of this special night. 

Thanks to everyone that made it down and helped in anyway, it’ll always stay with us, this one <3

For some, career choices come naturally, as was the case with Introversion: "I never planned a music career, it just happened. I started making music in my early
childhood." Now based in Berlin, Introversion has established himself as a producer, sound designer, and DJ, influencing the scene with his distinctive, pioneering style.
Drums are central to Introversion’s productions, having been the first instrument he learned in his youth. Many of his tracks feature breakbeat elements, defining his sound. His work often blends dark, '90s-inspired techno with melancholic touches. He skillfully incorporates wild synth stabs and full-force drums, balanced by classic trance chords, creating a fresh and invigorating sound. As a DJ, Introversion blends playful, forceful techno, drawing on new or unreleased material alongside carefully selected classics. His sets focus on finding the perfect balance between severe kick drums and atmospheric moments.
In a short time, Introversion has gained global recognition through acclaimed
releases and performances at iconic venues like Berghain Berlin, Institut für Zukunft Leipzig, Faust Seoul, and FOLD London. His breakthrough came with the 2017 EP "Dystopia," now considered a modern techno classic.
Following this success, he released music on ARTS, Materia, and Emerald, and
remixed tracks for artists like Ellen Allien, Nicolas Bougaieff, Blue Hour, and SHDW
& Obscure Shape. In 2024 he launched his own label Makatao with the solo EP “Sea Of Life”.

Blue Hour doesn’t need much of an intro, since 2013 the Brightonian DJ, Producer and label head has built a reputation for quick-witted techno and spread his sound at viral pace. The whys are evident, through the years Luke Standing has walked a road from a love of UK dance music genres  (and associated incursions under the monikers Furesshu and Esoteric), to full-bore and masterfully cut techno. When he called the UK home, fate inevitably pulled him into Berlin’s orbit, a place he’d often visit to get his musical fix, and for over a decade it’s been his new nest. He’s come into his own here, working hard (and playing hard) to build a sturdy vision that’s evinced through bookings, releases and close contact with names like Dold, Alpha Tracks, Scandinavian trance collective UTE and Philippa Pacho (with whom he runs forward-thinking  sublabel positivesource). His work, and everything his eponymous label puts out, is stimulating and high order, hedonic techno made for the big room that assuringly cuts all felt spatial and temporal bonds. Smouldering loops that reference his love of 90s rave, and pull equally from IDM, breakbeat, acid, trance and UK bass, furnishing a signature style that’s bullet-fast and unstoppable. Bassiani Podcast 245 is an hour-long studio-recorded spell to the tune of his trademark euphoria. Sweaty beats made for dancing well up to and beyond the blue hour.

Modern hypnotics from a new techno star.

It's a tale as old as time: techno DJ moves to Berlin to chase a dream. Philippa Pacho is part of the latest wave of talent to tread that familiar path. But don't let that fool you. She's one of the classiest artists around—no TikTok gimmicks here.

Pacho's formative years were spent in her native Stockholm, navigating a vibrant DIY party scene that included warehouse raves and illegal parties. She eventually took up a long-standing residency at beloved local club Under Bron and the experience, as she details in this week's Q&A, sharpened her technical skills, teaching her to handle every type of set—whether opening with patience, supporting a headliner or closing with finesse. She also played with countless touring DJs, from Answer Code Request to Antony Parasole, which ultimately inspired her move to Berlin.

That relocation has firmly paid off. It's a testament to Pacho's talent that you'll find her playing pretty much every big club and festival across Europe, from Berghain and Dekmantel to FOLD and Monument (we were exhausted just looking at her upcoming listings on RA). Other recent highlights include closing out Bassiani's tenth birthday, and back-to-backs with Fadi Mohem and Sandrien. 

Pacho's RA Podcast showcases her preference for classy, hypnotic techno, striking a balance between muscle and subtle groove. Her aptitude for what makes dance floors tick is also evident on her two labels—Phorum Records and positivesource (co-run with Blue Hour)—both of which mirror her DJ style, blending intensity with delicate textures. positivesource has released several standout records, including this year's "Psycho" by BLANKA and Phil Berg's "Psyckik" (which you'll hear on this mix). 

Spanning 70 minutes, RA.980 is a window into Pacho's thoroughly modern sound (the oldest track is from 2018). And yet it retains a refined, sweeping quality. Give it a spin and you'll soon twig why she's in demand on dance floors worldwide.

A soothing summer airstream coasting off of the Adriatic, Lock Eyes turns in four kaleidoscopic house & techno jams for the Lobster main label, keeping the summer sun rolling on through.

Opening the EP is ‘At Corsica’, an ever evolving, blissful and sun drenched house jam plucked straight from the cosmos. Giving a heavy nod to the legendary club and institution that has been such an inspiration for both artist and label.

Following hot on its heels is ‘Febbre’ which takes the lights down low and sets the humidity at a hazy late evening simmer. Busy humans hustle and bustle across the dusty streets as undulating kicks pierce the evening melé.

The flip kicks into gear with ‘Gone’ a fast moving and club-focused slice of techno that oscillates and whistles close to the waters' surface. Rolling drum battering and subtle percussion meet at a crossroads as an alarm call from deep beneath the sea brings things to a climax; leaving a vapour trail of cooled air in its wake.

Closing out the release is ‘In The Courtyard’, a soothing slice of machine driven acid & house. Calming pad work waves gently in the wind in and among skittering percussion, as a commanding yet understated kick & bass steers the good ship Lock Eyes back to home base.
