GiGi FM is a trained dancer, which gives her a deeper insight into the intrinsic relationship between music and bodily movement. You can read a lot more about her philosophy and approach in the interview below, but you don't even need to know about it to hear this in her RA Podcast—a collection of swirling deep techno that rivals anything made by the usual cohort of "hypnotic" techno heads.

Looking at the tracklist doesn't really do it justice, but the names involved give you an idea of what to expect: Varuna, ASC, Donato Dozzy, The Orb, Sunju Hargun. This is techno that ripples rather than bludgeons, that moves with an ethereal grace, where tracks bleed into one another beautifully, with a few surprises, too. While you're here, you should check out her Magnetite EP for Bambounou's label Bambe, already one of the young year's most bewitching techno records. But if this is your introduction, then turn off the lights, light a candle or some palo santo, and sink into two hours of your new favorite techno DJ.

Detroit young gun Rawaat finally steps up with his debut vinyl release for Lobster Theremin. Having carefully honed an inimitable sound that caresses the left-facing corners of house, techno, ambient and beats, this marks the start of what promises to be a very special year for the Mid West talent. 

Rawaat's own DIY tape imprint, Crisis Urbana, simultaneously provided the breeding ground and outlet for ideas and a collective mentallity that is beginning to define a new wave of Detroit producers, and listening to their discography it's immediately clear where those tape-saturated, cut-and-paste jams found their roots. 

Caverns Of Reflection opens the EP with shots of shifting mist and cascading iron strings, drenched in a rain of hazy melancholia. The theme is continued throughout the A-side with Exp 2's wind-battered textures drifting over saturated analogue drums and a beautifully twitchy and interlocking percussive melody. Motion Sensor finishes the side with an ambient-house-beats combo that throws classic rave tropes and early Warp influences in the pan.. Imagine what you'd actually be hearing after smashing ten pills in a Doncaster club in '91. 

The flip is a straight-up two-headed banger, opening with the floor-crushing Day Laborer. Clattering hats shatter over red-lined bass grooves and a vocal refrain that will carry for days.. Randy snares punch their way into the mix for a guttural assault off-set by the gentle pads 'n' clap patting that heal back to life. Huerco S. jumps on remix duties with his shortened H.S. moniker. This is true Detroit-spirited techno thrashed through the clubs of Europe and re-imagined as an extended, looping, psychedelic, strobed-to-fuck techy house number.

For our latest Bleep Mix instalment, Sandwell District come through with a hefty programming of dark rollers fulfilling that promise of reinvigorated purpose they mentioned before: “Having a good time”. And with a wealth of exclusive unheard material it’s hard to refute the mission statement. Dropping straight into the cavernous environs of an unreleased Regis side Frosty Jack’s, the selection rides a restrained line building tension through a number of Nastia Reigel tracks deployed with utmost precision before upping its stride with Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems and quickly landing first peak from The Wizard himself, with Jeff Mills' slamming ‘93 cut Step to Enchantment (Stringent). Taking in a track from their comrade Surgeon’s forthcoming album, as well as the simmering acid of their own tune Hidden, Sandwell District bring it back round full circle via two further unreleased reworks of heroes Meat Beat Manifesto providing a breakbeat singed rupture to close out the proceedings with the vocal snatches of MBM’s Helter Skelter summing it all up really: “It's in my brain now. This is it!”

DVS1 came up as a raver in the Midwest, throwing techno parties for over 20 years and getting up to mischief, often next to huge stacks of speakers that still influence him to this day. He is now well-established as a vital DJ and resident at Berghain and Panorama Bar. 

This mix is something special and a side of DVS1 normally not heard or recorded! A true digger and passionate record collector running the eclectic Mistress Recordings and the more pure techno label HUSH. Here he crosses into house territory for a special dekmantel mix. 

Of the podcast we have here, he says, “This mix is two hours of a four hour rare “house” set recorded LIVE in Sept 2017 at an undisclosed location. I make it a point not to release many mixes and while most people know and follow me for my techno sets, this mix is for those who dig a little deeper and appreciate it all… Enjoy!" There is still a real sense of pace to the mix as it glides effortlessly though flurries of percussion into vocal numbers, cosmic curveballs and piano laced anthems. It’s a fascinating insight into a whole other side of one of techno’s foremost talents.

NYCTA is a project Adam X and Function have been pulling together, with many obstacles along the way, over the course of the last 10 years and this mix captures the essence of what they set out to achieve. It pays total homage to the sound and it's a sound that, in a scene where everything has already been largely reissued, hasn't had a light shone on it yet. Nugroove, yes. But this is much more than that. Though not overlooked in the history of electronic music when it comes to the early days of electro, hip hop and disco, New York City has been largely overlooked in it's contributions to the origins of techno and house music in America, while the cities of Detroit & Chicago have always taken most of the credit. Names like Joey Beltram, Frankie Bones, Lenny Dee, Tommy Musto, How & Little, Mundo Muzique, Damon Wild, Todd Terry, Kenny Dope, Ralphie Dee, Jimmy Crash, Rheji Burrell, Bobby Konders, Roger S, Blue Jean, L.B. Bad and of course Adam X were as instrumental in bringing both genres forward as the artists from the aforementioned cities.
