Glad to share with you the first volume of our new mix series, lazed. A monthly rendez-vous imagined as a new playground of musical expression focused on listening music. 

For this first episode, we're glad to welcome the artist Elvira. Inspired by her different sound practices in the performing arts and the electro-acoustic environment, she owns a very singular take on electronic music that is slowly making its way to ears around Europe. 

Elvira: « I imagined a cockroach wandering in a desert, the sun hitting hard causing dehydration leading to hallucinations. Sometimes voices appear, other times insects squeak. At some point the cockroach is tormented cus it falls on his back and is incapable of turning around. »

Hailing from the Swiss rave scene, NVST is a producer and DJ unafraid to challenge the crowd’s comfort zone, defying preconceptions. Her style embraces a clash of genres and textures, creating a raw, acidic unity that ignites a frenetic dance ritual with battered breaks, sleazy acid, industrial vibes, techno grooves, and more. NVST’s DJing approach is far from conventional, steering clear of commercial norms.

Beyond her passion for DJing, NVST is an active militant for the development and preservation of electronic music in Switzerland. NVST is spinning multiple plates, as part of the Female:Pressure family, co-running the French label Big Science and holding residencies on Rinse FM

NVST's discography is also extensive. In addition to numerous remixes published here and there, she has released an EP and three albums under her own name, an album with the Drift Institute, and she just release  a new album on the Berlin-based label SSPB (a sub-label of Monkey Town ). In addi­tion to these accom­plish­ments, her recent fea­ture in a Tre­sor com­pi­la­tion solid­i­fies her posi­tion at the fore­front of cut­ting-edge under­ground elec­tron­ic music.

Weirdness and detail. This is all I want as a listener and a dancer, and what I want to convey as Ikävä Pii. In this mix I’ve explored slowfast ambiguity, music for ponds and futuristic punk, pairing Italian Sunitty with warped UK techno, with a couple of WTF turns.

For the most part, it is extremely detailed music. It’s abstract and rich. I don’t like the definition of “sound design” anymore: it sounds “functional”, as if the goal was creating a product. These producers are (like me), instead, trying to spawn detailed worlds.

I’ve started making music with a punk band in Puglia. I picked up a guitar because my father and all his brothers played. Family gatherings were beautifully loud. Puglia was still a poor and tough place when I was a kid, so my love for international music was a form of escapism. I was (like many others) online a lot and in touch with musicians from all over the world. I started dreaming of London listening to The Clash at maybe 12yo? London has truly shaped me, I was radicalised here. Politically and artistically. And here’s where I embraced my queerness.

I think, in many instances, it was here that I was exposed to some really fringe stuff, and that’s how I realised I loved everything that was genuinely weird or boundaries-pushing. Furthermore, I believe that Hackney Wick makes my life as an artist easier. Cheap rent, community and proximity: it’s a 5 mins walk from the warehouse to the studio and the venue, and sometimes special things only happen thanks to the support of other locals. You know who you are! <3

Niche started in April 2023 as a monthly sonic hangout; noisy jams, open decks, and improvised sets. Now it’s a full-scale event, with performances by some of the best artists we know. It started out of necessity: an accessible space to experiment with fellow noisemakers. 
My relationship with the venue was crucial; I’ve been a resident at The Bath House for 2 years now, and Niche can only happen because my studio is there.

It is a lovely ecosystem of musicians, DJs, listeners and dwellers. We are trying to bridge the gap between the bedroom and the venue, offering a space for people to try new things out and take risks, playing for the most understanding audience. In terms of curation, I am looking for the most daring acts out there - no genre limitations, but definitely priority to live shows, and musicians in particular. 
Alongside artists I know and/or follow, we met incredibly talented people through the open calls, or other nice folks who just jumped on the groupchat and asked to play! Keeping it as open and diverse as possible is at the core of our practice. We only have one resident at the moment - the amazing Queenie.

"Last year I met Cypher.

I discovered a similar sensitivity through the moments we lived together. Through the words and the interiority they let me see.

I was more than happy when they asked me if i wanted to do a mix for Klarity Clinic.

What i wanted to do with the mix, the intention, was a big question for me.

I found my way in sharing my sensibility, which is quite stuck in the past. 

Nostalgia Is one of my engine and i found it interesting to explore it with sounds from the 2010s, sweet voices, percussions and even at the beginning a dialogue from Twin peaks. What i always wanted to hear from my father but never had.
