The third of Breaka’s self-releases sees collaborations between himself, known-associate Frazer Ray, and brother Bakey.
“Fun with a capital F is the theme of this EP. I selected these four with that in mind, each one also bringing a different flavour of the UK sound. ‘The Loudest Woiioii Ever’ and ‘Phone’s Ringin’ are the product of a few sessions that me and Frazer managed to squeeze in last year. We were hugely inspired by early dubstep, instrumental grime, and of course UK Funky.
For the flip, I thought it was high time to release some of me and my brother’s productions for the world to hear. ‘Club Dynamics’ takes things right up to 150bpm, and draws on Jungle and Juke influences. We round off the release with ‘Pro Perc', a UKG groover to vibe out to, named after the now closed drum shop on Kentish Town Road we’d visit as kids.“

After releasing a debut album in 2021, DC-based producer @villagersound aka Alex Young joins @chloerobinsondj’s ever-growing @prettyweirdrecords imprint.

Delivering a high octane EP destined for the dance floor, these are his most club-focused beats to date. Recorded exclusively on hardware using samplers, groove boxes and synths, it displays an effortlessly raw and live analogue aesthetic with a nod to UK garage, bass, techno and the sounds of 90s rave music.

Stripped back 2-step beats skip amongst energetic hi-hats on ‘Chlorophyll’, while blissful synthesiser melodies dance across vocal cuts with moments of pitch-bending mastery and colourful modulation. ‘Club Wonk’ is an essential DJ tool with unconventional structure, taking blistering kicks and tight rhythms that ride across an impulsive, meandering bass demanding full attention. ‘Joint Resolution’ - a collaboration with DJ ADHD - brings the classic sound of rave flawlessly into the present with phasey breaks, bleeps, and an unmistakable Alpha Juno-esque hoover bassline. ‘Rave Bender’ is an outlandish and fortuitous trip into the unknown encompassing minimal beats and twisted sonics. ‘In Town’ displays a deeper side of Villager’s productions, channelling the essence of UKG with bouncing toplines and bittersweet vocals pushed through ghostly reverb.

Octo Octa and Lavonz remix DJ Q’s celebrated 2020 single ‘All That I Could’ / ’It’s You’ for Local Action's first release of 2021.

Octo Octa, fresh from the release of their celebrated mix CD for Fabric (together with partner Eris Drew) stretches ‘It’s You’ out to a six-minute bleep ‘n’ bass odyssey, while UKG veteran Lavonz (fka James Lavonz, one of Q’s personal favourite producers since his late 90s releases both solo and as half of Krush Groove) hones in on ‘All That I Could’’s vocal lead, pairing it with sweet keys that bring out the original’s R&B influence.

Nicolas Duque is a producer whose playful take on UK Garage, House & UK rave sounds is attracting ears far beyond his native Colombia. After an appearance on the Breaks 'N' Pieces Vol.2 VA, the Bogota producer makes his full release debut on the label.

The release opens with UK To G, an unpredictable but alluring tribute to the spectrum of sounds across the hardcore continuum. If Just The Way is a sweet UKG song for the lovers on the edge of the dancefloor, then Moshpit Rave is it’s breakbeat-lined alternative for the couples in the middle of the rave. This romantic thread is amplified on the B-side with 2You, a sugary-sweet R&B flip. Bristol Love, with its whompy bassline & tightly-chopped breaks are an ode to the soundsystem city & Holloway’s remix ramps up the dread with a menacing reese bassline.
