Apprehensions

Taking elements from shoegaze, psychedelia, and classic rock, “Sky Falling” is the debut record from Manila-based indie rock band Olympia Maru featuring scene veterans Siopao Chua and Bryan Kong (Taken by Cars), Shinji Tanaka (Squid 9), and Ahmad Tanji (We Are Imaginary).

Based on material written by Chua during a lengthy period of self-imposed domestication, “Sky Falling” contains 9 noise-pop tracks weaving together loose and sprawling sonics heavily drenched in fuzz and reverb, fittingly reflecting the emotions brought about by significant life changes experienced in the haze of recent years – growing older, settling down, and parenthood.

Named after a sunken Japanese WW2 supply vessel resting on the ocean floor of Coron, Philippines, this version of Olympia Maru will be making waves felt by discerning listeners of quality independent rock music.
