Purple Velvet is Chris James and Lee Dearn, two purveyors of deep and sensuous house music since forming in late 2011. Having gotten to know each other at various late night music sessions, the pair have increasingly honed their own house sound that’s as suited to the dark confines of a club as it is the sunnier vibes of an outdoor terrace.

If you’ve followed Local Talk thru the years you’ve most likely noticed how we like to throw a few curves balls every now and then. 

For our 65th release we’ve got Gomma boss Mathias Modica aka Munk and NDATL head honco Kai Alce sharing the black gold. Two producers with their own unique style presenting something special.

Brooklyn label Razor-N-Tape is renowned for providing feel-good disco reworks. Having released over the past four years more than fifteen EPs by established names such as Late Nite Tuff Guy, Frank Booker and Chrissy, the imprint has managed to combine consistency and quality. Their latest release is no exception, with three top shelf edits by Glasgow record collector, DJ and producer Al Kent, who also runs Million Dollar Disco. We've chosen to premiere the groovy number and house-friendly "4006", with its unresolved loop and sudden key change that keep you wanting more. So good !

Local Talk is a Swedish label known globally as a trusted source of timeless House music with influences from Jazz, Funk and Soul.
Whether jacking, raw or deep, each release is compiled with care and attention to detail, and one of the things that binds them together is an honesty that doesn’t follow a fashion and hype.
Working closely with artists including HNNY, Kyodai, Art Of Tones and Crackazat to mention just a few, the label has played a large role in many a success story. Last year Local Talk had its fifth birthday, but its strict parents Mad Mats and Tooli wanted to give their child a lesson in patience and said it couldn’t open its presents or invite its friends round for a party until 2017. Now 2017 has arrived, Local Talk is actually five and a half, but the celebrations can finally begin and this 5 ½ years compilation is the big present that has been causing all the excitement. Eagerly unwrapped, this LP does not disappoint. Once the paper is removed, the contents include a special ten track release, which showcases unreleased tracks from the labels close-knit group of family and friends. Family friends Art of Tones opens the release with an outstanding track, that full of birthday wishes and Jazz undertones kicks off the birthday party. Uncles, cousins and well-wishers from across the globe all drop in to join the shindig.
Many of the artists who feature on this release have been involved with the label since its conception. Those making their debut have been long time supporters, contributing musical gifts to mark the labels coming of age, plus show their continued support for the years to come as Local Talk continues to grow and mature.

PREMIERE : DJ Spinna - Tie It Up

Amsterdam based @MarcelVogel has risen to fame following releases on his seminal Lumberjacks in Hell imprint, which along with his own music, has featured tracks from the likes of Rahaan, Karizma and Soulphiction.

Marcel Vogel’s latest release on Lumberjacks in Hell is a split EP that features new original material featuring impressive vocals from @khalil-anthony and stunning remixes from Nebraska, BB Boogie and @Julien-Dyne.

With a strong Afro Jazz influence we have been lucky enough to premiere the Julien Dyne remix before its vinyl release on the 23rd of October.

Julien Dyne is a drummer, who’s solo output is best known via his releases on labels including BBE and Wonderful Noise. Popular with the likes of Gilles Peterson and Benji B, he first made a name for himself at the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy, and through that has performed alongside icons such as Theo Parrish.

Khalil Anthony provides the vocal lead. He is a poly-math, a multi-disciplinary artist working with varying mediums and media. His work investigates the relationships between spirit and space, the black body, sexuality, society and the urban experience. Weaving together these artistic intentions through writing, dance, movement, acting, painting, arts-admin, education, and song; his work speaks to a diverse audience and varying communities. 

Marcel Vogel’s “Dance The Blues Away” is a vocal lead tale, telling of heartbreak, love, then turning into lust and rejection, and Julien Dyne has put his stamp on things by adding a touch of chic. Smooth and raw, the vocal he uses also tightens the percussion with some expert sequencing. Adding some delicate synth textures he loses none of the originals charm whilst taking the track in a new direction.

Fouk are back on Heist. Their new Truffles EP is packed with swinging goodness and comes with a jazzy Hugo LX remix.

After a busy period last year, Fouk have taken the time to experiment in their studio, focusing on expanding their sound and releasing only a handful of tunes. Their ‘Mating Call’ EP on their own label Outplay saw them explore the deeper side of things, while remixes for artists like Joey Negro on his own Z Records alongside Ron Trent saw them show off their production skills with a superb hi tech funk track.

On the flip, ‘Need my Space’ sounds like something you’d hear if Pépé Bradock and Charles Webster would get together in the studio: dreamy synth lines, lovely textures and weird electronics over an ever so sexy bassline.

The remix on this EP comes from Parisian artist Hugo LX, whose love for soulful electronic music and jazz are perfectly presented in his remix of ‘I’ll be down’. His version is filled with shimmering leads, synth hits and some lovely horns for good measure. For us, this is a case of jazzy deep house at its best.
