On Local Talks 74th release its about time to get real…and we’re not only talking about the music! This is a heavy and political record that through music expresses the constant struggle for many African Americans living in the US today. Or like Jamie (3:26) said after he first heard Sameeds initial version - it instantly hit me with the raw pain and emotion or the lyrics. There is so much struggle in the world today, many black men and women are in emotional, mental and spiritual battles.

The message is delivered over two tracks, ”Testify” and ”Can’t U”. Both tracks are using the same themes and samples but with a distinct difference on the end result.

Long-time deep house guru Nail follows-up the successful re-issue of his classic 1996 album 'Big D's Lounge' with an absolute bubbler in the form of 'Decisions', all skippy percussion, woozy keys and slinky double bass. SMBD (commonly known as Brownswood regular Simbad) provides a stomping disco cut-up on 'Captain', a big track propelled by a crunchy, chunky rhythm. Athde remixes American spoken word poet Kamal Imani's 'Cosmic Being' in a lush lo-fi house way with jazzy keys and warm bass.

Following on from Phil Gerus' 'Make Time' EP, the next release on Berlin's True Romance comes from label boss Tensnake. 'Machines' is home to three rather brilliant tracks that should usher in the summer. And strangely enough, with cooing vocals and disco filters, it feels as French as droopy Gauloises and 6pm adultery.

We're premiering closing track 'All In All' which sticks to the classic Tensnake template with predictably excellent results. Right out of the gate you know this one is gonna cause some serious moments on the dancefloor. The bassline casually struts along with a rude level of funk, while the fizzing synths gradually bring the whole thing to a rolling boil.

The latest transmission from the Lumberjacks stable taps up London-based producer Alan Dixon, who tackles a soul-stirring gospel belter from Frank Booker on the A side. Whatever your spiritual persuasion, "Rise & Shine" can't help but inject a little joy into your life. On the flip, Dixon turns the piano house power up to 11 with the life-affirming thrust of "Whatcha Gonna Do", featuring Maleke O'Ney on vocal duties. Completing the set, Lumberjacks head honcho Marcel Vogel drops in a remix that twists the original into a loose and limber jazz-funk-house odyssey of epic proportions.
