Emancipator returns to continue his collaborative hot streak with the first single taken from a forthcoming album project with long-time collaborator, label-mate, and member of his live band – Lapa. 

“Souldia” is another interesting sonic turn for the musicians as they cast their talents to the outer realms of dance music and incorporate deep and tech house influences into an expansive and winding arrangement. 

The track starts with a calm feeling of mystery and anticipation that unfolds into a journey of non-stop forward motion, riding a razor's edge of lightness and darkness along the way before culminating in an unexpected orchestral disco peak section, fitting of Studio 54, where Lapa’s violin influences are on full display. 

This was one of the first tracks to be completed from the new album and acts as a calling card for the full length – showcasing a new and entirely open composition style where any instrument or influence is brought in to the fold and utilised in new and unexpected ways. 

It’s an experimental take on the roots of electronic music that sees the duo exploring uncharted musical territories more akin to DJ mixes than any of their previous material yet remaining accessible by the familiar anchor of four-on-the-floor beats.

Packed with potent dance-floor heaters and a plethora of exotic, worldly and other-worldly sounds, '11th orbit' sees the longtime collaborative duo, Emancipator & Lapa, concocting experimental takes on the roots of electronic music. Exploring uncharted musical territories more akin to DJ mixes than their previous material, they clearly enjoyed the process of progressing their sound along the way, filling these tracks with leftfield sonics yet remaining accessible through the familiar anchor of four-on-the-floor beats.

This is memory music. It's about how simple things are more complex upon closer inspection. It's about natural ghosts in strange spaces. This is the result of several years of studying the emerging global Trip Hop genre and finding my place in it. Founded and curated by downtempo staple Emancipator, Loci Records is a point of convergence - the crossroads of melodic downtempo, instrumental hip hop, and electronica. Over the last 7 years, Loci has quietly become a platform for intelligent, carefully crafted, electronic music, shining a light on young artists, and helping those acts bring their visions to fruition. With over 30 releases under the label’s imprint from a strong roster of artists also including Marley Carroll, Thoma, Nym, and Edamame. 

Season Two is the second compilation from Loci lineage and whilst it introduces a number of new artists into the Loci world, it also marks the beginning of a more consistent release schedule with bigger releases, developing a global reach, and revealing more hidden gems with the world.

A sonic alchemist, Murge weaves the eclectic and the electric to create dancefloor-centric beats that fill the space and lift the crowd. Inspired by travels through eastern Spain, Here We All Are is a cohesive collection of downtempo tracks, filled with fresh, earthy bass and neoteric instrumentals. Unorthodox sounds intertwine to create an expansive aural journey; one of connection and elevation. Pulling from across a variety of genres, Murge’s influences are wide ranging and free flowing; from the Cosmic era of disco to psychedelic jazz, from Latin rhythms fused with the elasticity and inclusiveness of world-inspired music to field recordings of ambient samples, captured during his own global travels.

'Here We All Are' was primarily produced at Murge’s studio The Cabin, with additional recording and mixing taking place at Burning Rainbow Studios in Victoria BC and The Warehouse in Vancouver BC, followed by mastering by Grammy nominated Shawn Hatfield at Audible Oddities. Influenced by the live instrumentals of Bonobo and Khruangbin, Murge has collaborated with some of BC’s most talented vocalists and multi-instrumentalists to create a full, world-inspired sound. First track ‘Reach Out’ is an uplifting dance floor groove reminiscent of sundowners at Cafe Del Mar; all languorous laid back beats peppered with inspiriting live flute. Lead single ‘Can’t Hurt Me Now’, featuring vocals by Sierra Lundy, is rich with moody dance floor energy and warm textures.

No stranger to packed dance floors or epic stages, Murge has entranced crowds at some of North America’s most well respected electronic festivals (Shambala, Bass Coast). A world class DJ and skilled producer, he has also shared stages with Bonobo, DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus, Hot Chip, Pete Rock, Kid Koala, De La Soul, Wu Tang Clan and Charles Bradley. With collaboration and creativity in mind, Murge has worked with Talib Kweli and Blackalicious, and has featured on remixes for Tegan & Sara, alongside Four Tet, Toro Y Moi and Holy F**k.

A longtime captain of the dance floor, Murge presents Here We All Are as a fresh offering of inspired global consciousness and transformative connectivity. 2020 is shaping up to be an expansive new chapter in Murge’s story.

Downtempo electronic favorites Koresma & Northern Form (fka Andrew Rothschild) team up on a new collaborative single. ‘Alpine’ has an organic feel to the production, focused around overlapping guitar lines, which weave around layers of synthesizers, vocal samples, and atmospheric recordings. With both artists having a background in guitar, the track stands out as having a more guitar focused quality to it than others in the genre. A hypnotic and timeless treat, ‘Alpine’ fits in nicely alongside the producers contemporaries like Emancipator, Bonobo, and Tycho.

ODD WORLD, that’s what we are living in these days on planet lockdown: no gigs, less traveling, spending a lot of time online, making and browsing new music and sometimes even meet new likeminded people. 

Thats what happened to Chris Schnelle aka Cir:cle and Sebastian Davidson. Both navigating in different corners of the electronic music scene, but crossing path in the downtempo genre. They started making music together during the German and Dutch COVID-19 lockdown both reaching outside the boxes they have been sitting in. The result? A 5- track EP made with pride in Europe, crafted in the spirit of those who keep exploring.

'Tangerine Sour' is taken from 'A Thousand Clouds' by Emancipator & 9 Theory. 

A Thousand Clouds is the follow-up EP to Emancipator and 9 Theory's highly-acclaimed 2019 collaboration, Cheeba Gold. After the success of their first EP, and how fun and organic the making of it was, the two west-coast electronic music producers set out to see if they could recreate that magic once again with 4 new songs. The two spent one week together at Emancipator's studio in the Oregon woods and went from a completely blankslate to this finished new EP in just 6 days. To keep in the spirit of Cheeba Gold this new EP, A Thousand Clouds, was also intended to be only 4 songs, be made quickly without overthinking it too much, and the track order of the songs is again the same order in which they were made. The end result is another unique, magical blend of electronic, downtempo, indie, and hip-hop that lives somewhere really special outside of what either artist would ever make on their own.
