Superpitcher and Idjut Boys remix Radio Slave’s ‘Wake Up’.

Radio Slave’s spoken word slow-burner ‘Wake Up’ dropped on Rekids March ‘23, winning support from the likes of Roman Fluegel, Louise Chen and Red Axes and continuing a run of singles that explores the house and disco roots of the iconic British UK/Producer. Now, he invites Kompakt affiliate and Hippie Dance co-founder Superpitcher alongside UK duo Idjut Boys to reimagine ‘Wake Up’ on a fresh 12”. 

The original ‘Wake Up’ saw Matt Edwards, aka Radio Slave, utilise low-slung grooves and an iconic speech-like vocal. Superpitcher remixes the track first, turning it into an acid-infused trip with its vocal samples echoing through cavernous, dubbed-out soundscapes. On the flip, we see Idjut Boys turn up the flange in their hypnotic version while maintaining the original’s bassline and stripping back the vocal to eerie whispers.

Can't Stop is Jonathan Kaspar's debut EP on Maeve.

The title track runs to almost 12 mins and although debated and discussed many times, both the artist and label felt the track needs this length to fully intoxicate a dance floor. It is, in short, a trip.

Mano Le Tough steps up on remix duties for Can't Stop and delivers his signature magic touch. Littered with live percussive elements, it takes the original to deeper hypnotic level before firing the machines into life and surprising the listener with a soaring hook and glittering melodies.

Come Close is a straight up, heads down techno roller, made for late nights and hazy mornings in special dancing spaces. Rounding off the release is, "Too Late But Sorry", a sweet track that is reminiscent early Kompakt records in its beauty and pace.

All four tunes have their place in any DJ set and already have found an adoring audience the world over, it's fair to say we are extremely proud to have this on Maeve.

Fernando Luna is a Mexican DJ and producer from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Some of his influences include styles like Rock, Pop and Mexican Folk, all fused with analog and digital electronic music genres. After the great success of his releases “Moto EP” and “Inocencia EP” with the Mexican label Duro, Colossio has received the support of international DJs including Dixon, Áme and Echonomist to name a few, being “Advertencia” and the remix of Domink Marz to “Inocencia”, the most outstanding tracks that were played by these renowned DJs in different parties around the world such as Space Miami, Zamna Tulum and even in a Dixon’s streaming presented by Junction 2 by Beatport at the TV Tower in Berlin. He started 2021 making his debut on Toto Chiavetta’s label, “Borders of Flight”, participating in his annual VA with a collaboration alongside Sobek titled “Tatras” released exclusively on vinyl via Muting The Noise.

That same year he also collaborated with Sobek on the release of his EP called “Fragmentado” on the Scatcity label, which includes a remix by Skatman that was released digitally and on vinyl. In 2022 he released an EP with Dominik Marz called “Erate” which will be released on Âme’s label, Exit Strategy. He has remixed artists such as Luke Garcia & Th3 Oth3r, Ivory, Did Virgo, among others. He has also performed in some of the best clubs in Mexico including Topaz Deluxe, Bar Americas, Mia, Funk, Crania, Casa Cobra, Bar Oriente, and in European countries like Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Tel Aviv, Marseille, Lyon, Lisboa, and Berlin, as well as on radio shows such as Kiosk Radio in Belgium and Redlight Radio in Amsterdam.

In 2023 I will release an EP with Luke Garcia called “Let Go” which will be released on Engrave LTD with 2 remixes by the italian producer Musumeci. By the end of 2023, 2 releases are expected, the first a song on Innervisions’ Secret Weapons and an EP on the Canadian label Microcastle. His versatility, approach and vision on what is the new Mexican sound is a clear example of the new wave of producers in that country that has a high caliber and the potential to become one of the most outstanding artists of his generation.

Applied Magic, the boutique independent label led by Aera, is once again on a mission to bring you exciting dance music that stands apart from the crowd.

We are thrilled to present the newest addition to our roster, the EP titled "Strada Nuova" by the exceptionally talented Italian artist Bar.ba. This collection of tracks pays homage to the small town where Bar.ba grew up, celebrating the simplicity and wonder of youth, and is complemented by a dancefloor-friendly Fango remix. 

Bar.ba presents three distinct pieces, each inspired by a place that holds special meaning for him. He explains: 

"I wanted to describe these memories the way a child would: in a raw, simple, yet pure way. I aimed to use a mix of dirty and clean sounds, along with happy and simple melodies, to convey the feeling of remembering the pure and simple enthusiasm that children possess. Distant but close, a little melancholic but happy and filled with hope.” 

Fango's remix of "Campo Sportivo" infuses a dose of dancefloor energy into Bar.ba's track. With unexpected twists, Fango's reinterpretation breathes new life into the heartwarming original, enhancing the "Strada Nuova" EP with a dynamic and contemporary touch. 

In line with the record's theme and to infuse it with a distinct analog charm, it was mastered directly to tape by Embeat Mastering.

Playfully subverting the original concept of nostalgia, this time the artwork was generated by AI, specifically Midjourney, using cues derived from Bar.ba's description of the production process and
photos of his hometown, feeding the results back into each other.
