Well he wasn’t one for stars but he’d wanted one once.  He saw her standing with her daddy, she was in town to make a film.  He saw the wild world right there behind her light blue eyes, and the way the sun ran warm circles around her brown curls.

They’re people too, you cut them and they’ll bleed.  If she falls, if she falls she’ll need a hand.  I‘ll be there strong as any backwoods.  Casting call!  Ya’ll come help us tell the story of the Big Bang.  He felt a new, strange, wonderful pain when he saw her in the newspaper ad there, his blue-eyed girl.

Hey Daddy!  Yes Son, what do you want? Hey did you hear they’re gonna make a film right here in town? Oh, and I guess you want to be in it, eh?  Who’s the girl?  Now tell me, what kind of part would you be playing in this movie, Son?  I guess an old-timier version of myself?  Oh yeah? And what would that look like, Son?  Sad and Lonely?

They’re gonna put me in the movies.  They’re gonna make a big star out of me.  Make a film about a man who’s sad and lonely.  And all I’ll have to do is act naturally.

His turn came, they called his name.  Into the room full of strangers from a strange world.  He delivered the lines up the best he could with his voice cracking and one eye on his girl.  Into the alley with his head in his hands.  He was down for a while and when he looked up she was standing there.  His hope rose just long enough to watch a young man in a leather jacket come right up and kiss his girl.

They’re gonna put me in the movies.  They’re gonna make a big star out of me.  Make a film about a man who’s sad and lonely.  And all I’ll have to do is act naturally.
