After releasing a debut album in 2021, DC-based producer @villagersound aka Alex Young joins @chloerobinsondj’s ever-growing @prettyweirdrecords imprint.

Delivering a high octane EP destined for the dance floor, these are his most club-focused beats to date. Recorded exclusively on hardware using samplers, groove boxes and synths, it displays an effortlessly raw and live analogue aesthetic with a nod to UK garage, bass, techno and the sounds of 90s rave music.

Stripped back 2-step beats skip amongst energetic hi-hats on ‘Chlorophyll’, while blissful synthesiser melodies dance across vocal cuts with moments of pitch-bending mastery and colourful modulation. ‘Club Wonk’ is an essential DJ tool with unconventional structure, taking blistering kicks and tight rhythms that ride across an impulsive, meandering bass demanding full attention. ‘Joint Resolution’ - a collaboration with DJ ADHD - brings the classic sound of rave flawlessly into the present with phasey breaks, bleeps, and an unmistakable Alpha Juno-esque hoover bassline. ‘Rave Bender’ is an outlandish and fortuitous trip into the unknown encompassing minimal beats and twisted sonics. ‘In Town’ displays a deeper side of Villager’s productions, channelling the essence of UKG with bouncing toplines and bittersweet vocals pushed through ghostly reverb.

This mix is the end of PlemmPlemm's live recorded DJ set at the Entropic Soundscape festival near Tirane. He played from 2am to 5am, after Linear Demand and before Jean Etat, who recorded FATPOD69. PlemmPlemm is a DJ and producer from Hamburg. His interest in groovy and experimental visions of techno music can be heard very well from the mix, as well as the rising sun in Albania and the soft ending as a perfect transition to Jean.

HAUKE FREER - ONE TINY UNIVERSE (STB03)

HAUKE FREER'S latest offering includes two warm and moody original cuts plus an intense, bass heavy MATTHIAS REILING Remix - is that really you, SESSION VICTIM?

While the duo's records usually strike a chord with a somewhat broad audience, Freer's solo output never tries to cater to the House Music masses. In fact, it feels very much tailored to please an acquired taste. 
ONE TINY UNIVERSE is a case in point, built upon a steady but wonky drum groove and a brizzling, retro, sci-fi kind of pad, eventually leading the song into an array of synth melodies that will reward you with discovering new things when listening repeatedly - showing Hauke's ability to subtly combine little bits and pieces into something that effortlessly outgrows the sum of its parts. 
Moving on to the flip, Reiling stripps the title track off it's warmth and beauty and replaces them with a tougher drumset and a pressure heavy UK style bassline. You'll be reintroduced to Freer's synth work eventually, but in a less fairytalish and, well, slightly hostile environment.
MMMMM is the closing cut of the EP, a composition just as bare and raw as it feels soothing and gentle - like.... let's say beans and rice over a campfire on a cold night under the starry sky of a far away tiny universe in the fingernail of some other giant lifeform.

Hejjj peeps, introducing Vincent Neumann!

Avid music collector, DJ’s DJ, Vincent Neumann has gathered a loyal underground following by word of mouth, with consistently brilliant closing sets and long patient vinyl-orientated mixing. Born, raised, and currently residing in Leipzig, Vincent Neumann works as a psychotherapist during the day and as a DJ by night.

As one of the residents of Leipzig’s Distillery since 2012, he happily gets to share his passion for dance music regularly. The vibes during his DJ sets are regularly described as energetic, driving, enthusiastic, and sometimes even relentless, without ever sacrificing taste, quality, and joyfulness. For him, authenticity will always stand above fame, and if you witness one of his marathon sets at Berghain or elsewhere, you will understand what the fuss is about.

In order to further plant his musical footprint into the sticky mélange of spilled drinks and cigarettes on the world’s dancefloors, Vincent founded his own label Unitas Multiplex in 2020. So far, highly acclaimed releases from the likes of Billie Joe, Fundamental Interaction, Inter Gritty, and Linn Elisabet have seen the light of day with more to be expected in the future. Who knows, maybe he will even release music from his own feather sometime in the distant future.

Until then, you can definitely keep relying on his contagious energy and taste behind the decks.
