Welcome to our #015 podcast by Spunky (DRESDEN | GER)

Das Dresdner Urgestein Spunky legt seit 1995 Schallplatten auf. 
Auf die Frage, wie er seinen Auflegestil bezeichnen würde, antwortete er uns, dass man den mittlerweile gar nicht mehr so benennen kann und er sich eigentlich als „House, Techno, Funk, Soul, Disco, Hip Hop, Afro Beat, Jazz und Blues DJ“ bezeichnen müsste. 
Spunky möchte Musik schon seit längerer Zeit nicht mehr in Schubladen packen und mit dem Publikum bzw. den Zuhörern genreübergreifend einfach nur Tracks teilen, welche seine Seele berühren. Dass er nach wie vor fast ausschließlich Vinyl spielt, begründet er allein mit dem fehlenden Gefühl für neue Abspielmedien und der für ihn viel wärmeren Empfindung des Sounds. Zum Abschluss unseres kurzen Telefongesprächs hat er uns noch mitgeteilt, dass die Tracklist des Podcasts ohne seinen DJ Freund Mike Huckaby aus Detroit, welcher Ende letzter Woche nach kurzer Krankheit viel zu früh verstorben ist, niemals so zustande gekommen wäre und er ihm auch auf diesem Wege noch einmal seine tiefe Dankbarkeit aussprechen möchte: „Ihr hättet nur Mike’s strahlende Augen sehen müssen, als er mir vor ein paar Jahren Mad Rey’s  Quartier Sex ans Herz gelegt hat. So viel Liebe in einem Menschen, so viel Liebe zur Musik habe ich bisher wirklich selten erlebt und ich war lange nicht mehr so traurig wie in diesen Tagen.“, sagte uns Spunky abschließend. Max brings everything together when you think of a mastermind: he plays many instruments, is a talented sound engineer and producer, his voice is unique, his lyrics are touching. His releases are published by very grounded Berlin labels such as @katermukke, @get-physical-music, and @criminalbassline, and that is not all. 
We speak about his early beginnings in darker times in his life, and his move from Brussels to Berlin. Tune in for some positive vibes during, and also just because of the pandemic. He explains how he learned to accept himself, for instance by giving to other people. He talks about the “path of the soul” and we take a deep dive into what it takes to have a happy life. Enjoy!
