eRecords is a digital record series created by Whitelabrecs, to run alongside our physical releases. These editions aim to transform the digital format into something that can be experienced in a similar way to a listener’s interaction with a real, white label vinyl record. Participation mystique refers to the innate human connection to symbolic and imaginative experiences. This symbolic realm exists before or alongside our ability to think analytically or rationally. The idea is strongly linked to projection, as these symbolic or mythic elements naturally extend themselves into the world around us—into people, places, and things, just like how we unconsciously assign color to what we see.

Participation mystique is not just a psychological concept, but an aesthetic principle – a lens through which we perceive art as more than just something we observe; it becomes something inhabited.

In artistic terms, participation mystique can be thought of as a dissolving boundary between the self and the image. In this perspective, any manifestation of art can be perceived not just as an external object, but as an extension of the viewer’s unconscious. Colors, shapes, and atmosphere resonate with inner archetypes – mythical, primordial, emotional – before the mind can name them. This is why abstract compositions can seem hauntingly familiar, or why certain symbols – like a spiral, a doorway, or a shady forest – draw out something ancient, deep, and unconscious from us.

Participation Mystique

Distant Shores

In September, I’ll be performing several ambient shows and have already started preparing for them. This piece, which I’ve titled Rise, reminds me of that moment just before sunrise. The textures were created using a glockenspiel and the Soma Cosmos. For these shows, I want to bring more acoustic elements into my sets, and I’m currently putting together a kind of “sound toolkit” made of different sonic objects.

Rise

Frequencies — Drift Notion’s lo-fi suite mapped to calming frequency beds. Each track pairs a specific tone (alpha/theta/delta pulses; 432/528/639/741…) with dusty drums, warm tape, and neon ambience to steer the mood—from morning clarity to midnight deep sleep. Built for study, journaling, decompressing; play it straight through for a day-to-night arc or drop into the emotion you need.

Beta Breath – Alert Calm

An EP that was simply made for fun. I started taking my music too seriously (despite facing little to no pressure) and got to a point of not enjoying it. I gave myself no time limit and made whatever sounded "cool" and enjoyable to me. I spliced both old demos and scrapped sounds with new ones, and I this is the most genuine fun I've had making a project thus far.
