"AVEN" is the new EP of the artist Jean Dasso aka ORSSO, also known under his former producer's name Yeahman. This opus (to be released at the end of 2022 on UK label Earthly Measures) presents a more club-like facet, sounds that aim to cross dancefloors, through travel and trance. We can’t talk about ORSSO’s music without talking about colors, a disparate cohesion, an immensely textured journey, and it would be an illuminating one.

On this new EP of four tracks, we recognize the sound range of the multi-instrumentalist, a very true sensibility for dreamy and adventurous melodies, even if he has, for the occasion, swapped his guitars for synthesizers, percussions and sharp drum machines.
Orsso draws a landscape filled with a new energy. Jean's vision is palpable, softening some of those annoying rules and borders in electronic music. It's colorful on all counts, but also finding back his Global Bass Music influences. The rhythms intermingle, transcend the borders, and we discover with surprise dancehall and breakbeat facets ("Almadies"; "Curruca"), modular soarings ("White Lichen"), or a delicious dub ride ("Plateforme"). A journey through many soundscapes, an excuse to wander elsewhere

There is also this strand running though it all, non-tangible, that makes us all feel very reassured. The party is never far, it depends on whether you arrive before, during or after.

During a trip to China in 1994 after a visit to the Ming Tombs with Qi Fong, a student at the Beijing university and my translator, we encountered a caretaker and gardener who offered to show us the Secret Garden hidden deep within the Palace of the Forbidden City. Having passed through the main halls of the palace and through a series of winding corridors, we were led into an exquisitely lush
sanctuary of murmuring fountains and hushed corner pavilions filled with every sort of tropical plant and fauna. In an alcove hidden still further in the ancient space sat a young woman under an umbrella playing the Guzengh and singing softly to herself. Unable to tear myself  away from the experience I sat beside her as she gently sang of a lost love and a far off land to the south.
