Blitzen Trapper’s seventh studio album, “VII”, will be released on Lojinx on the 30th of September. 

VII is full of the vivid folk-rock-campfire-tales frontman Eric Earley is so well known for. The album opens with "Feel The Chill," a southern adventure complete with a woman in her underwear, deer hunting, and of course drowning at the local bar. Earley takes us down a crooked bend so dark and gloomy you can smell the heat and feel the humidity oppress you. "Each song starts from a small place, a headwater-like remembrance and then widens into a song. For instance, that old wreck of a shack buried in evergreen and murky darkness at the bend in the road up on Jackson Hill where we used to drink, never failed to give me a chill driving by in the old Impala for it's implacable mystery," Earley notes. 

Tracks like "Thirsty Man" speak of love in a Dylan-esque fashion where Earley reveals "love like rain falls in the wasteland and slips thru the fingers - for love is a thing that cannot be held, only felt and released". "Drive On Up" is a soulful, almost bluesy rendition of small town tales of quirkiness. "It seems you're always driving on up to something." Earley amuses, "into the mountains to see a girlfriend above the reservoir where she lives in a single wide with her mom and a cougar stalks us at fifty yards through the brush, she says to bang sticks but never look it in the eye." 

VII moves effortlessly from track to track, allowing Earley to paint the colorful pictures that play in our head while singing along. "...there are those songs I keep writing over and over again, "Ever Loved Once" with all its regrets and tragic lost love, "Don't be a Stranger" its hopeful cousin but they all still point to the same worn out place in the heart of old E. Earley. And hey, we all have that place, that worn spot on the heart like the chew canister circle on the back pocket of blue jeans, or that one shred in the green felt of the table where you ground the stick in too hard... May these songs minister in ways mysterious and eternal, or at least maybe make you shake a hip." 

Blitzen Trapper's VII will be released on CD, vinyl LP & digital download on 30th September on Lojinx in the UK & Europe and on the 1st of October on Vagrant in North America.

One of Sweden’s biggest, brightest pop stars, Nina Persson, is about to release her first solo album under her own name.  The hotly anticipated “Animal Heart” will be released in the UK on the Lojinx label on February 10th 2014.

This is the first solo release from Nina, and her first album out since she, Niclas Frisk and Nathan Larson released “Colonia” as A Camp in 2009.  Her other band, The Cardigans, have not released an album since 2005.  “Animal Heart” was written and produced by Nina along with her husband film composer & novelist Nathan Larson (A Camp, Shudder To Think) and Eric D. Johnson (The Shins, Fruit Bats). 

“The most difficult and maybe also the best thing about going solo is probably all the decisions you make alone. Somewhere inside, I have a very clear clock, a gut feeling, that says what I think. I have forced myself to just keep going and follow only my gut with this album. I have simply no time to dwell on things anymore which I did a lot before,” says Nina.

Since The Cardigans’ last album and the two critically acclaimed albums by A Camp, Nina has performed as part of The Citizens Band, featured on the Sparklehouse/Danger Mouse collaboration “Dark Night Of The Soul” and started a family. 

The goods news is that “Animal Heart” - the album and single – see Nina back on form with the return of her wonderfully distinctive voice carrying finely crafted songs. Perhaps unsurprisingly, themes include moving forward without getting caught in the past in addition to the perennial topics of relationships and alienation.

Nina has recently been playing a few select shows with The Cardigans in various parts of the world and will be over to the UK to play solo dates in early 2014. Meanwhile, "Animal Heart", the album, is something truly exciting to look forward to in 2014.

The Lost Brothers 4th album, New Songs Of Dawn and Dust, is the start of something new for the Irish duo. Their previous release, 2012's "The Passing Of The Night", was the closing chapter in a trilogy of records that started with their debut album "Trails of the Lonely" in 2008.
 
Since forming in Liverpool in 2007 the songwriting duo has chosen to collaborate with other artists on each album, recording in Portland with Mike Coykendall and Adam Selzer, in Sheffield with Richard Hawley's band and in Nashville with Brendan Benson and members of Old Crow Medicine Show and The Cardinals, respectively. So it's somehow fitting the band have returned to Liverpool, to record the first of a new trilogy with Bill Ryder-Jones, solo artist and former guitarist of local heroes The Coral, at the production helm.

Recording was scheduled to begin when Ryder-Jones returned from touring as guest guitarist with the Arctic Monkeys. "Everyone was busy so we waited til the stars aligned and then went for it! We felt like we had a dream team of pals to make the album we really wanted." explains Oisin. "We flew in from appearing on Russian national TV in Moscow straight into the studio to record the record".
 
From the 30 songs written on the road, 15 were selected for the studio, recording 12 and 9 appearing on the album with three instrumentals. All recorded and mixed in 7 days at Parr Street Studios.
 
It's no surprise that gigs in the last few years with luminaries such as Brendan Benson, The Frames, Billy Bragg, John Prine, Squeeze and, most recently, The Delines have landed them plenty of vocal support from their musical mentors & peers.

The duo have also made fans at radio and TV, with appearances & plays on NPR's Mountain Stage in the US and Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne, Huey Morgan and Bob Harris in the UK. They have performed on the BBC’s Culture Show and Celtic Connections and on Irish TV's esteemed Other Voices and The Late Late Show.
 
October 2012 saw The Lost Brothers complete an extensive US tour with Glen Hansard and in March 2013 they played the legendary Midnight Ramble at the Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, followed by the Midnight Ramble Concert For Levon in Texas.

The band describe musical influences that range from Ennio Morricone
 to Jack Nitzsche to Beck, from Chuck Berry to Harry Nilsson, from Sweeney's Men to Van Morrison, from Bob Dylan to Lou Reed and Nick Cave. 
 
"This new album steps away from the strictly folk/americana thing and opens up a new door for us," says Oisin.
 
New Songs Of Dawn and Dust will be the duo’s second full length release on British indie Lojinx.  The album will be out on CD, LP & digital on September 22nd.

"Little Angel" started seven years ago as a rough demo recorded in an attic in Portland, Oregon. The song lived in a drawer with The Lost Brothers archives until inspiration hit earlier this year while crossing the Irish Sea during a rocky winter storm. Out came the guitars and the remaining verses and choruses were written in one sitting.

To record the song California native Sean Coleman, now living in Dublin, was called in to produce at Gavin Glass's Orphan Studios. Some of Dublin's stellar musicians were recruited to record the song with sessions featuring The Frames' Graham Hopkins on drums, Michael Buckley and Ronan Dooney from Glen Hansard's band arranging the brass, bass is played by Keith Farell and The Lost Brothers on vocals and guitars. A rich musical friendship lay at the roots of the recording as The Lost Brothers had toured with some of these players across the US when supporting Glen Hansard on tour.

The digital single includes second track 'St Christopher', a cosmic Christmas ballad written and recorded in the Lost Brothers' spiritual home of Liverpool.  Produced by Domino recording artist Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral), the song features special guest Drew McConnell (Babyshambles, Fionn Regan) on bass guitar and Ryder-Jones on piano.

Fred Abbott will release his debut solo album, Serious Poke, on 20th July.  The London-based musician, until now best known as lead guitarist and keyboard player in the recently disbanded Noah And The Whale, previews the album with a free download of the pop-rock gem, Funny How Good It Feels.
 
A supremely talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Fred Abbott joined Noah And The Whale in 2009 and went on to huge success with that group, especially notable being his contribution to 2011‘s Platinum-selling and highly acclaimed Last Night On Earth.

The band eases back as well by featuring some of lead singer and songwriter Eric Earley’s strongest writing yet, particularly on the semi-autobiographical “Mystery and Wonder”. With five solo albums, one as Well & Goode and two albums apiece with The Mood Elevator and Raconteurs, he has captured his own America in finely hewn pop.   

Created as an outlet for his own writing and production work, Benson’s Nashville based label Readymade Records & Publishing will follow the release of What Kind Of World with the debut album from Young Hines in May, produced by Benson himself.  Both albums will be released in the UK and Europe by Lojinx

Future Monarchs is a band eleven years in the making. Built around the songwriting talents of childhood friends and bandmates Bobby Lord and Jake Anderson, they have culled together the disparate influences of the 60’s British Invasion pop, Laurel Canyon folk and the indie rock that they grew up with into a sound that is as infectiously familiar as it is paradoxically original.


Lord and Anderson spent their high school years playing together in west suburban Chicago bands.   When songwriter Lord headed off to Columbia College to study sound engineering he continued to write and demo songs for an intended future project while occasionally recording and performing with other live acts. Anderson, a year younger, remained at home in the suburbs. Isolated from his community, Jake found solace in an acoustic guitar and the GarageBand software of his father’s Macbook.

After a year in exile, Anderson moved to share an apartment in Chicago with his older brother and Lord. With over a year’s worth of demos and over a hundred songs between them, Lord and Anderson were both eager to create an outlet for their music. Envisioning a group that could combine Lord’s polished hook-infused pop with Anderson’s earnestly organic singer/songwriter romanticism they created a band - Future Monarchs.

Lord introduced passed their demos to Columbia College sound recording professor Josh Shapera who, enthused by their songs, enlisted the help of his friend Pat Sansone (of Wilco) as co-producer.

To fill out their live roster Future Monarchs recruited bassist Justin Park on bass, Billy Klein on drums, and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Sager on keys, guitar and percussion, with Lord and Anderson sharing guitar and vocal duties.

Anderson, a year younger, remained at home in the suburbs. Isolated from his friends at college, Jake found solace in an acoustic guitar and the GarageBand software of his father’s Macbook.

After a year in exile, Anderson moved to Chicago to share an apartment with his older brother and Lord. With over a year’s worth of demos and over a hundred songs between them, Lord and Anderson were both eager to create an outlet for their music. Envisioning a group that could combine Lord’s polished hook-infused pop with Anderson’s earnestly organic singer/songwriter romanticism they created a band - Future Monarchs.

Lord passed their demos to Columbia College sound recording professor Josh Shapera who, enthused by their songs, enlisted the help of his friend Pat Sansone (of Wilco) as co-producer.

To fill out their live sound Future Monarchs recruited bassist Justin Park, Billy Klein on drums and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Sager on keys, guitar and percussion, with Lord and Anderson sharing guitar and vocal duties.
