Gracing The Dawn

I worked on a track from disquiet 0160 by Aedes Aegypti,

Quoting description:
"A mysterious, recurring bleep from the schoolyard on the other side of my back fence sounding at the frequency of 3200 (G7). Whatever it is, it's still beeping at random intervals and with varied attacks and decibel levels."

The Oblique Strategies card I got was "Take away as much mystery as possible. What is left?". I admit clicking several times before I settled down with this one. And then I remembered that mysterious bleep in the original track. So I opened it in Audacity, showing spectrogram to locate the bleep more easily. Then I performed some surgery and pasted it in a new stereo track. Why was it mysterious? Literally speaking, because it was different from the bulk of sounds of the track, i.e. contradicting the rule. In such cases we suspect some complexity behind. After reasoning this way I looped it to make a mechanical beat as the second layer, like it was some simple device producing the bleep, and panned the layers away. The sound was not singular any more, but part of a regular pattern.  So instead of complexity it should imply some simplicity of origin. However,I can hear some vague melodies in the resulting track that were hidden before. Conclusion: what is left is mystery, the more you remove the more is left.

The spectral second and final instalment of Funerary Call’s “The Mirror Reversed” tumbles deeper through the Setian tunnels, leading the way to the vast and mysterious Other Side. Continuing from where his initial movement left us, Harlow MacFarlane once again summons the tones and auras of his Qliphothic interpretation. It is a serpentine force extending from a churning black vortex lined with crystalline fetters. A dark and textured voyage through the shards of the shattered black surface that once reflected the illusory. The 46-minute meditation ebbs and flows through ambient pulsations of fear, awakening, and the unknowable. Each segmented chapter is a dynamic representation of the individual demonic forces at work, bringing us closer to the roiling waters of formlessness. The forbidden freedom of the Other Side awaits.

Funerary Call - The Mirror Reversed II - Excerpt3

Sung by the famous sculptor, Sayaka Ganz, this is a traditional folk song from Japan about a coming of age ritual performed at a Shinto shrine.  The symbolism of entering as a child and emerging as a young adult is powerful, yet frightening.  In fact, the lyrics mention that it is frightening no longer being protected by youth.  Jon Gillespie played all the instruments, recorded, engineered, mixed and mastered this track at the Cloister Studio in New Haven Indiana
