Here's a fine example of real...real artistry.. Involving those you love and having fun. Mistermark is 99% original music but this was a nice bit of life light to discover too.


You know I think aside from the music here the most inspiring thing for me on SoundCloud is realizing and meeting all the individuals doing the same thing. It's such an amazing way of life making music, but as we all know it's difficult in this meritocracy poisoned by money to do just music. So there's an incredible mutual respect extended from me to everyone here still doing what they can musically with society as it is towards its creation

Imagine you had to be a banker... and not earn money from it... Or maybe earn money from it in the future.... We'd all be pretty shit with money like me 😆... But I think it does make the double standard point nicely and I believe we need to change how we approach true artists.. They need to be invested in... Fuck the wanker bankers... WHEN has a banker ever inspired you and WHY don't we invest in the thing in existence that does MUSIC and ART?... That's one better future I'd like my kids to experience and I think they will in Ireland anyway.  I think we're not far off basic income for artists... It's a thing a creative society must do end of story! Imagine the art we'll get when artists know they are loved from the start... More artists will finally be recognized as what they are..

This song began on the last day of the cold January of this year, when Ken sat down at his piano and recorded an improvisational jam. This is the first song Eclectic Collective has done where Ken started it with a piano, so we were all very excited to work on it.

Josh was the first one to add a part, adding his fretless bass guitar, and going back and forth with Ken, while he added the drums to match the groove up right. Josh also added the mandolin after the guitars were laid down, as well as the descending synth blasts you hear throughout. Before all that, though, Stephen recorded the first half of the thrilling guitar you hear in there. After Stephen had his part down, Tez came along and finished the guitar work in the second part. Last, but certainly not least, Mark added the amazing symphonic elements, specifically the horns and flute you hear in there. He also added the cold January wind, represented by his breath and some tinkling bells.

Once it was all wrapped up, we asked Stephen to put a bow on it with his expert production, which he came through with, as always.

As mentioned, this is an extraordinary offering from EC, starring Ken not only on drums, but on the keys, as well. It felt like we were jamming all together in the same room, and hope it comes across that way. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

January Epiphany - (Eclectic Collective)

This is an original song I recorded some years ago that describes the transition when seeing your son come of age as you (the parent) has to let go and adjust to a changed role in his life. Some regrets occur, thinking that the time to do certain things with your child has come and gone, perhaps you could/should have done more.
This was recorded back when I wrote it, so my recording techniques were not very advanced and I lost the master, left with just an MP3. I want to thank Nat Daniels and her production skills for helping make the most of improving the sound, although there was only limited opportunity to undo all its flaws. She also added some lovely piano parts to help replace many of my original xylophone parts which had faded considerably. Despite the rough quality, I hope the sentiment conveys. (note: Neddu was a nickname my son was given during his infancy which should help explain the lyrics)
