I Had no doubt picking the artist which would take Lomidhigh Mixtapes virginity. K.atou had to be the girl. Despite the fact that she still hasn’t finished her ep for Lomidhigh Lmtd, I believe it will happen one day in the near future, hopefully 2010 will be the year. Back home in Athens after 2 years in Berlin the sailor has returned to her Mediterranean Sea, sipping drinks by the pool and skinny diving under the waterfalls. Wonder what she is up to besides enjoying life.

Where was the mix recorded ?
In a very special chamber that doesn’t allow BPM to be more than 120.

You’ve recently moved back home to Athens after 2 years in Berlin – too many parties ?
too many parties.. too little time.?! no I’m only child i wanted and had to be close to my family, after living away since I was 18 … plus that I’m from the Mediterranean and my DNA demands sun and above 30 degrees temp at summer time ..

What have you been up to lately, are you working on any interesting projects besides enjoying life and finishing your ep for Lomidhigh Lmtd ?
Sailing, swimming, travelling, eating .. working on several different projects, like recording vocals for several producers, making music, and enjoying a dry from gigs summer .. good conditions to be more productive and not have you waiting for another 2yrs for the EP.

I’m not even gonna ask you which club is your favourite club, everyone who knows you the slightest bit knows that Club der Visionaere is the place you are at – what makes this place so special to you ?
the location, the energy, the people that participate from all posts to this place, the willow tree, the opportunity to listen the most amazing music in a wonderful environment. the center of the world as we say.

How is the techno/house scene in Athens compared to Berlin ?
I wont compare… not yet.. but if things go as planned, Athens will be able to get its little piece of the techno pie soon. Athens is riding this wave that goes down and then of course it will go up.. something that I never felt happening in Berlin though.

I’m only aware of Lemos, Kreon and yourself from Greece, please name me some more artist that I should get into ?
Argy, GummiHz,And. Id, Mr. Statik, Novox, Ison & Solar, Ekkohaus, Tolis Q, Leon Sega.. I guess you got homework for the next few days.. just with those names.

…oh dear are they all from Greece.. At least I knew a good few of them from their productions.. Obviously not from their nationality.

On the 5th Sept. there´s the Athens Dance Festival – enTechno – ένTechno, the line up for the event looks massive, what is your expectations for this 24 hour party? Will this be a returning event in Athens ?
enTechno – ένTechno is a great collective work to show around Greece and the world how many artists and what a talent this country has, combined with the presentation of films that are dealing with the electronic music, a passion that has made many of us leave our country and now we have the chance to be all together again and dance for 24hrs.

You’ve been playing quite a few places around the world, which city did you enjoy the best ?
Tough one.. well.. USA in general is my fav place to play actually. the people really have fun, knowledge and they love dancing.. the community in USA is strong and with loads of fun. Detroit is the city I enjoy the most playing every time the past 4years I go there.

What do you pick up in the airport when you go travelling ?
A coffee mug for my mum from each and every city I have travelled to .. now she has a huge vitrine with all of them ..cigarettes and a bottle of whiskey (no surprise on that one I guess).

hi Barbara, please tell us a bit about this mix which I’m so happy you sent.. Where did you record it?

It was recorded a year ago 26.02.11, the first time I played at the Cabaret Party, Club Unit Tokyo.

You told me this mix consists of some old school records..so I bet there’s a few favourites in this mix. Which records have you always got with you in your dj-bag?

That’s not easy to answer. There are some records which stay in the bag for a longer period, while some records will only be in the bag a few times. But generally it’s a contsant coming and going.

Which hobbies did you have in your childhood?

I was completely into horses and horse riding and I learned piano playing.

Only two records have been released on “Slices Of Life” since you established the label in 2009..(nearly as slow as Lomidhighs releases some might think) are you waiting for the right ones to put out? or is it just a little side-project?

I think nowadays a vinyl only label might be a side project in most of the cases. ;-). Yes, I’m more interested in releasing music that I like personally and that I would play in my dj sets instead of just putting out many records in order to rise my catalogue numbers.

When did you start listening to electronic music?

I was listening to New Wave and EBM as a teenage girl and started to go out to Techno Parties around 1992.

When touring, which city (country) do you enjoy the most?

So far I think Japan is in the top list, but this is also hard to decide since I’ve had great experiences in various cities and countries. Last december I was playing in Montevideo (Uruguay) and Santiago de Chile. These places were also special to me as well.

What is your favourite club to play at?

There are many clubs where I’ve had great nights. I can’t really point out THE one and only.

..and in your opinion, what makes a club a good club?

The combination of a very good sound system, promoter and staff that are into the music and – very important – an open minded and curious audience.

Sonja, how are you keeping – please tell us about the mix..

How am i keeping? as usual, slowly ;) I’m going on in my own flow, where my interest leads me. I’ve been working the last 5 months on a soundtrack for the Swiss tv’s new branding. that was a new experience, quite challenging I must say. Now it’s over and I can focus on electronic music again. A couple of remixes are in the oven, amongst them one for Adil Hiani, a great Marrocain artist from Cosmo Records and I do my little techno travels, as I say, as usual.

This mix is a very long tale, but I doubt anyone has the interest in reading about it! To make a long story short, when Daniel asked me to provide him with a mix for the 11th Lomidhigh Mixtape, I was very pleased and remembered our few encounters, like at Culture-Box in Copenhagen, where it sounds raw. I don’t do many podcast, the few I did were always going everywhere, from quiet sounds to jumping tunes so this time I decided to make a complete club mix, from beginning to end. raw and straight! For sure it’s not one to be listen to in the bedroom on Sundays ;)

Where was the mix recorded? How was the atmosphere?

It was recorded live in one shot at the Milk Klub – r.i.p – in Geneva at the end of February, on a sunny Friday morning, when the club was actually closed. I’ve spent many nights in there, although the club only existed for less than a year, felt really happy to do it there at this time.

What got you into dj’ing?

I think as every DJ, I was first a clubber, or maybe better said a raver. As your musical taste refines, you slowly feel the need to feed yourself with that particular sound you might not find at every party, so I started to buy records, and equipment. At this time, Geneva had a great underground scene, and it was not difficult to ocupy free spaces to throw parties. basements, warehouses, openair gravel pits.. I was 17. At the end it’s like a teenage hobby that lasts forever. or do we call it passion?

How is the techno/house scene in Geneve ? Daria told me that you used to play together at Weetamix with Luciano and herself… Was that when you started as a dj?

No, actually that was already like a good 5 years later. Weetamix is the only good and real club we’ve ever had here. As I said before we had a fantastic alternative scene in Geneva, but that was a long time ago. When I started to play regularly at Weetamix, that other underground scene was seeing it’s places disappearing one after the other, to a nearly total vanishing point today. The potential has always been there, and it’s still the case today, but our politicians have decided differently. They prefer a clean international image to a vibrant and creative alternative society.

What was your childhood dream to do as a grown up?

oh, I had many, but it always had to do with gathering people together in order to share something in common.

You’ve been playing a lot of different places around the world, which city do you enjoy the most?

Every city has it’s ups and downs, and what I like the most is despite the small size of our electronic community, you will find the same dance moves, groove knowledges and smile over the faces in every one of them.

What is your favourite club?

always this question ;) I don’t really have a favourite place to play in particularity, I already have many in mind while writting these words! so, ok, to name just a few, past, present and future: Club der Visionaere in Berlin, for that so special freedom feeling you don’t get anywhere else – Kruthuset in Stockholm, for the ever changing creative structure – Arma 17 in Moscow, for the massive, yet sensual effect – Weetamix in Geneva, for all the memories..

..and for you, what makes a club a good club?

well, a balanced mixture of everything, good audience, good promoters, good artists, good soundsystem, good lightening.. and that little plus you can’t really name, that makes it rumble just dirty enough to get yourself loose.
