New York Howl is a love song to New York. Your relationship with the city – especially if you’re newly arrived – can be fraught with uncertainty and fear until, if you give in to it, the city makes you fit its mold. Finally, you don’t so much belong as you become part of New York. The video tells this story symbolically; the shadowy figure in this rather Wellesian scene is an expression of the city – a secretive, unknown, intimidating, even frightening figure. Cici runs from the shadow pursuer, venturing deeper into the city’s heart (Central Park of course) before it overcomes her and, alas, reveals that it doesn’t mean to cause any harm but rather to possess her. She relents, becomes part of the city, another one of its shadows.
 
The title of the song is a reference to the now defunct band of the same name that played the underground clubs of Brooklyn in the early 2000’s - around the time that David and Cici moved to the city. A favorite act of David’s, New York Howl the band was part of the soundtrack to the love affair (or possession) that lead to New York becoming home.
