The releases on Curle roughly go anywhere between deep house and solid techno, but Hiver’s deep techno sound is probably what I appreciate most myself if I had to choose. Melodic, floating and based on traditions but without sounding like something you already heard too often, that’s about how I would describe the Italian duo’s second Curle EP. Their first one got played by Sven Väth and Efdemin just to name a few. Hiver hold a residency at Milan’s Dude Club, but in the meantime have played everywhere from Dimensions festival to Panorama Bar.

Dancing On Wax welcomes Aisle of Dogs with his debut single on the label, Wildflower, a deeply emotional addition to the catalogue that explores the raw, introspective side of lo-fi house.

Sad, atmospheric and understated, the track drifts through hazy textures, softened drums and lingering melodies, balancing moody contemplation with a subtle, in-the-zone groove. There’s a quiet vulnerability throughout, giving Wildflower its depth and staying power.

As a newcomer to the scene, we’re proud to have him on the label with a release that truly captures its spirit.

Inventing diamonds with you at the front of my mind

Rings Around Saturn (aka Rory McPike, Dan White) presents six minutes of bottomless rave as arpeggiating bass synths suggest 303s without ever going full acid – the bass tone growls for the entirety of the track while syncopated drip drop synths provide the counter melody. Blasts of white noise remind of nightclub smoke machines and alongside manipulated bird calls contributes to the humidity and density of the tracks overall soundscape.

Ryan James Ford’s productions are rarely anything other than inspired. Through regular releases on Marcel Dettmann Records, Answer Code Request and his own SHUT imprint, Ford has proved to be an exciting producer, capable of mangling sounds and styles to fit his wide-ranging musical vision.
The Berlin-based Canadian arrives on Happy Skull with a label debut that dramatically emphasizes the point. While each of the four tracks features audible nods to a wealth of influences and inspirations, the bold individuality of the resultant cuts all but renders such comparisons redundant.
For example, EP opener “Ormst Kaban”, whose wild, crashing, off-grid breakbeats and twisted, foreboding electronics aggressively spar with glacial chords and icy textures. The 16 bit arpeggio lines of 'Hobrv Kegdit' are underpinned by powerful sub-bass tones and industrial drum-breaks that merge to create a densely sprawling mass of dance floor melancholia.
This pattern continues throughout the EP, with “Slown Ridel” and “Nos Ummi” balancing skittish, noise-seeped percussion with the dreamy, glassy-eyed swell of classic ambient and pioneering early ‘90s IDM.
